Hornet 563T... 03 Tahoe... and dead batteries!!!
Hi. As some of you may or may not know, I used to be a 12v installer. I installed car stereos and alarms for about 5 years, and still do it now as a hobby. I'm having a problem with a friends truck that is really beginning to **** me off and cost me money. So I ask for anyone assistance...
The truck is a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. The alarm/remote start is a DEI, Hornet model 563T. Initially I used a 1700G1 data-bus interface, but due to the intermittent dead-battery problem, I removed that and hard-wired the door-locks and door-triggers using relays and etc, and replaced the bypass with a Passlock III 556LW.
The owner of the truck is a GM mechanic and did a draw test on the truck. He found that when the 1700G1 was plugged back in, it went nuts. So we removed it. The alarm/starter obviously has a small draw, but nothing abnormal. So, we removed ALL the add-on pieces and left JUST the 563T in. Dead battery again. We removed the brain of the 563T and its been fine ever since.
This points to something to do with the alarm/remote start itself. Now I am not a dealer, so I can't just "switch out" the brain like I used to, I would have to spend $100+ on a new 563T to swap brains. I don't think the unit itself is the problem though, I think its something else... I've used DEI for a LONG time and have NEVER had an issue... let alone a unit that draws the battery down to nothing.
Any ideas on things to check/test?
Cliffs:
2003 Tahoe with a Hornet 563T, DEI 1700G1 = Dead Battery
Ran draw test. Points to 1700G1 as culprit.
Removed 1700G1 replaced with hard-wired relays = Still Dead Battery
Unplug 563T brain and NO MORE DEAD BATTERY
WTF?
