Default gsr block, or stick with b16?

Hey guys. I have a really clean '00 si, and the b16 runs really good. What kind of a difference would it make to put in a GSR block that I have? I'll keep the b16 head of course, and the Si tranny.

Is it even worth doing? Or should I just be happy with what I got? I only ask, because I've done a lot of searching but can't find the answer. Of course, I suppose the question is this:

what's the output on a GSR/B16 hybrid? If it's only like 3 or 4 more lb/ft of torque, then I don't want to do it.

Thats what is called a poormans type R setup. IMO grabbing a gsr block for that b16 is definitely a worthwhile upgrade noting that gsr shortblocks arent even that expensive. Youd definitely notice the difference between the 1.8L and 1.6L blocks.

people do lsvtecs for the longer stroke. a b18a/b block is by no means stronger than a b18c block.

grab a b18c block, throw some p30 pistons in there, and slap the b16 head on.

yeah? Money isn't an option, I have the block laying around already. I just was wondering if the power gain was worth it. Of course I'd be tearing into a virgin b16, and I'd have to get a gasket, etc.

Do you know the difference in power? I've been searching HT, and google, and nobody posts any power gains from this. Those bastards. LOL.

LS blocks arent "stronger" they just make torque earlier in the powerband

A poorman type R setup can utilize a bunch of OEM parts whereas the ls/vtec build will require much more precise building.

yeah, I'm a big fan of the LS/VTEC. I have (or rather, "had") a fully built LS/VTEC turbo monster.

It was just a lot of money to do it right. You know? I was looking for a cheap bit of power in my Si, using a block I already have laying around.

It will keep the stock GSR pistons/crank/rods. If that helps. Also, I'll throw a tune on an S300 I have. But I'm just gonna use it to DD. I'm just looking for a little bump in torque. (if you've driven a stock Si, you know what I mean)

I can't go boost with this car. I already have a boosted LS/VTEC civic. THIS car has to stay super reliable, to get me to work everyday, and occasionally make 2000 mile road trips home.

I knew that stock for stock, a good driver will beat a GSR with an Si.... but the GSR still has the (crappy IMO) GSR head. What kind of a power difference does the b16 head make on a GSR block?

I dont think the gsr head is crappy. Its just a bit different from the other B series VTEC heads mainly because of the intake manifold design. It still has its pros and cons vs a b16 head though.
