Default relays and keypad

Any one have a keypad combination starter kill. If so I am wondering how it works… is it powered up when the key is on or off … I know with some car alarms if you unplug the main power the starter kill relay will default and you can start you car… I am thinking of wiring the keypad in line with my alarm starter kill relay or the power wire to the (OEM) main relay and if the keypad was unplugged the relay would go to default (I think 87a) but would not be powered up because the main relay would be hooked to 87… so I think the keypad or keypad relay needs to stayed powered up when the car is on and powered off when the car is off…. But I don’t really know how I would hook this all up or if the keypad will even work..

i know your all saying what the hell is he talking about sorry if i confused any one..

Wiring the start kill relay to 30 and 87a is normally closed, and the alarm provides a ground-when-armed which holds the relay pin on 87. As you said, if you cut the alarm wire, it will go back to 87a and allow the car to start.

Some alarms provide a ground-when-disarmed or a built in normally open option. High end DEI alarms with the 3 green/stripe wires all have this option. The alarm allows the car to start. Cut the alarm and the car wont start.

So now that's cleared up I just want to say that a keypad is useless if the wiring coming out of it is accessible because you can simply bypass the keypad. It's the same problem with the ravelco and those starguard chips dealerships like to install. Your best bet is still a hidden kill switch that interrupts an essential circuit to starting the car at some point other than at the ignition harness.

cool thanks.. i will just go with the hidden kill switch... do you think it would be ok to hook it to the main relay power wire. and know # for the DEI alarms

No, use the ground wire. It might be one black or two black wires. Both will need to be cut.
