H22 timing belt question.
Hi,
I recently obtained a H22 from HMO motors and am in the process of changing the timing belt after replacing the water pump and doing the auto tensioner to manual tensioner conversion and is all going smoothly.
How does one get the timing belt on without this tool
Any tips welcome

Install the autotensioner with the clip to hold it in the compressed position. Install the belt around the timing belt gear, tensioner pulley, and water pump gear (make sure the crank is at TDC on the #1 cylinder). You'll need to turn the intake cam slightly to get it to TDC on #1. Put the belt partially on the intake cam. You'll need to turn the exhaust cam a little to get it to TDC, and when you turn it, slide the timing belt onto the exhaust cam gear. It's tight, but not too bad. Once you have the timing belt on, remove the clip from the autotensioner. Use your fingers to keep tension on the slack part of the belt between the cam gears, or the timing belt WILL skip a tooth, and you'll have to start all over. Turn the crank over 2 revolutions (i.e. 1 revolution on the cam gears), and double check the cam timing. If everything is at TDC like it should be, you're good to go.
I've done more timing belts than I can count, and this is the way I normally do it.

Cool thanks for the tips, right after i posted that i tried something differently
I simply took off the tensioner pulley slightly and it gave me another quarter inch of slack then i just tightened up the tensioner pulley along with the balancer belt pulley and magically it worked! Ill put up some photos to make sure its peachy since I have never changed a timing belt before.
