A tranny can leak from a few areas, the most common being you input shaft.
If its your input shaft bearing, its eventually going to splooge all that trans fluid all over your newly installed clutch, ruining it. Id look to either replacing or even rebuilding the trans if that is the case. This leak can be seen coming from directly under your trans, where the flywheel dust sheild is. What the fluid is doing is leaking out of your input shaft and pooling in the chamber there where your clutch/pressureplate/flywheel are. Its not a fun situation because it calls for replacing the clutch disc, as well as the tranny.
Other leaks can be from a shot axle-seal, in which trans fluid slowly leaks out from your trans via the ports where your axles go into. The seals are about 4$ a piece, but remember both are diff sizes, and a pain to put in. You can tell if its an axle seal leak when you find fluid gathering/leaking from around the bitchpin/shifter input area (After the car has been sitting)
As for checking tranny fluid, theres no way in 92-00 D series Manual's (like a dipstick) unless you drain the transmission, and measure how much comes out ( compared to how much was put in, which should be ~2quarts of fluid)

wipe down your tranny from the top and surrounding area, then see where the leak starts from. i say this because it could also be your distributor seal thats is leaking and it will make it appear its your transmission.
