Default Tachometer Dead "Searched"

Ok first off ive read just about everything on these forums and other lude forums about my problem and some of it was helpful but still have a few unanswered questions.

OK, i tested the tach at the test location under my hood by the fuse box with a meter and got a signal, so from that info I believe the distributor connections are working and its not an engine bay problem. I disconnected my cluster and resoderd the connections to the gauge and nothing. Theres 3 clips going into the cluster one by the speedometer , one above the tach and one on the side of the tach. I belive the one on top which has 3 wires (Yellow, Blue and black) to be the input to the Tach from the engine? or possibly the ecu. Question is i tried the same test on that blue wire and got no reading, am I in the right clip section? and where else can I test the signal from the engine bay for my tach.

Like I said i have checked everywhere even in helms manual and mitchels and cant find the wireing anywhere, help is greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance

Sorry for being lazy today but my DVD is playing Star Wars and I dont think MOD shows a pin out of the cluster as you stated, I would ohm out the wiring from the tach wire at the distributor up to the cluster to be sure if that blue wire is it or did it change color in route. Of course this would show an open circuit and a bad wire as opposed to a bad tach, 99% a bad tach but good job trying to prove it. Did you try some of the other (accord) FAQ's for tach troubleshooting up at the top section of the forums post listings??

hmm actually i havnt checked the accord section, I will now tho. I just sat in the car and noticed the blue wire I originally thought was the wire for the tach didn't match the blue from under the hood. Its a blue wire with a grey splot on it. that was located in the bottom left harness of the cluster. I used the meter again on the wire and got a signal but it was flopping all over the place (i actually don't know what volt setting to put it on to be honest). I plugged that into the cluster with the car on and wiggled it a bit and the tach jumped a tad not much but it kinda came on then nothing. I use digital meter with a ton of settings, so maybe its working maybe not :/. Anyways if i could find a wiring schematic for the wire id prob feel allot better but tracing this wire isn't easy, it goes right into a huge wireing harness then doesn't appear (i think) until its by my ecu. Then it splits from there one side goes into the ECU and one goes into a plastic clip that was just tied up not being used.

Anyways if anyone knows how to set the meter and what wire to test by the cluster i can know 100% if its a bad cluster or not. Anyways thanx alot for the help

The grey splot just means that it is an underdash wire, use your ohm meter with the power off of the car to find the correct wire going out to the dizzy tach connection, you will get zero ohms or whatever you read with the two probes connected together in case your meter wont read zero ohms, some dont self zero very well.

ok dumb question inc...lets say im retarded (possible) and I needed some help on ohm testing this wire. Would you be interested in kinda coaching me? Thanx again for the reply.

Actually now that i think about it i see where your going. Now if i test the wire from the distrib, will it even read zero by the cluster? or is the wire broken up a few times on the way there?

tracked the wire from the distrib right to the cluster. Signal was going thru but didnt match up with the one from the signal from test tach. I guess this means my tach is toast, ill just grab a new one and go from there. Thanks for your help
