5 lug to 4 lug conversion, somebody help me out please!!!!!
I use to have a 2001 accord, which is 4 lug, bought rims that are 4 lugs, and now i have a 2006 civic si which is 5 lug, I still want to keep the rims that I bought, how do I convert 5 lug to 4 lug??? Any 4 lug hubs out there that I can swap onto my 2006 civic si? I know it is ridiculous, many people want to convert 4-5 lug but I want to convert 5-4 lug. I paid a lot for those rims so I really want to convert 5-4 lug.
yes it has occurred to me, I got some 19" racing hart cx that Id paid $600 per piece and don't want to get rid of them because can't sell them for that much anymore since there are so many cheap choices out there in the market.

I know it is smarter cheaper to just get a set of 5 lug rims, but I still want to know if I can do the 5-4 lug swap or not.
i dont think there is a lot out there for 5 lug to 4 lug there are no kits and i dont know if there are any 4 lug hubs that would go right on to that car good luck got pics of the wheels?

because they're bigger, using 19s puts extra stress on your wheel studs, brakes, and your hubs/bearings. they slow down your car's braking, acceleration, handling, etc. some people like stuntin'. whatever. that's not the issue here. i'm sure the stock 5 lug system can deal with that just fine BUT...
...when you're talking about taking a different 4 lug system that was meant for a lighter car, and putting it onto your heavier car, AND throwing 19s on top of that, i start to wonder how well those 4 wheel studs can take all of that extra stress.
and for what? how much money are you really going to be saving by doing this? not to mention the time and effort to find the conversion parts and install them. you're gonna have to use 4 lug brakes, too. those are probably smaller, and who knows what kind of condition they'll be in, especially if you get these parts out of a junkyard. there's more money you might need to spend. after this, what if your wheel studs snap? mo' money, mo' money, mo' money...
what a giant clusterfuck.
hey, it's your time and money. do whatever you want. but you asked for advice, and i'm giving it to you. do what you want with it. just like your $2400 rims, it's not a good idea. sell the rims, take the hit, and buy some other rims that fit. you're not saving anything by down-converting your hubs and brakes to 4 lug. you're paying money for problems.

Think about Civics and Integras and Accords in the 90's. They were relatively smaller cars and had 4-lug wheels, as many smaller cars do. Now think about the higher-performance Integra Type R and Civic Type R from the same era. Those cars were built for higher performance and needed hubs that could higher stress from track use, hence the 5-lug setup on Type R vehicles. When the newer V6 Accords came out, they also had 5-lug wheels because of the higher weight and larger torque output of the V6.
Now fast forward to 2005 and up. You have RSX's and the new 8th gen Civics, which are all larger than their 90's predecessors, with more weight, and because of that, now ALL Civics and RSX's have 5-lug hubs. The new 2008 Accords are also out, which all have 5-lug hubs across the board on all models and all engines.
Trying to change to 4-lug would be a VERY dumb thing to do. If you were so concerned about keeping your wheels, you should have looked for a car that the wheels would fit on in the first place.

YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN A HONDA FIT. THEN YOUR RACINGHARTS WOULD HAVE FIT IT. THATS THE ONLY 4 LUG CAR HONDA MAKES IN AMERICA.
It has nothing to do with strength. If fewer lugs were weaker, then Formula 1 cars and various supercars would have wheels falling off all over the place with their single wheel nut.
Bolt patterns were studied years ago by Ford, and it was determined that only 3 lugs are necessary for most vehicles. Cars have 4 and 5 lugs for redundancy, aesthetics, and compatibility.
Changing a brand new Civic Si to 4x114.3mm is silly, but not for that reason.
First of all, nobody has done this (why would they want to?), so you'll have to be the pioneer. There are no other knuckles compatible with the '06+ Civic (and even if there were, you'd be downsizing the brakes), so you're limited to working with the hub itself. You'd have to measure hub dimensions and see if any OEM 4x114.3mm hubs will work with your axles and wheel bearings or an alternate bearing. If not, you'll have to have something custom made - which requires high quality materials and precision machining, and WON'T be cheap. Ideally, you'd want it to be hubcentric for the brake rotor. Don't forget that you'll have to re-drill the brake rotors as well.
If the $2400 wheels were so important to you, you should have considered all of this beforehand.
Better yet, don't buy $2400 wheels to begin with.
Just get rid of them and swallow the loss. You can't win everything, even if you try to force it.

The whole more lugs for more performance is bullshit. Using more lugs is only for aesthetics, it actually increases unsprung mass actually. Now, you could get adapters made to work with your wheels but 19's would look very very bad on your civic. In fact...I think it might make baby jesus cry and noone wants that.

He's talking about a new 8th gen Si Civic, which is larger than previous 5th and 6th gen Civics. I think 19's would look just fine on it, if they would fit (which his won't of course).
