I am looking for LS cams that can be used on stock vavletrain. I am lookig for more mid and top end but not looking to upgrade valve springs yet.
Thanks

its not so much the redline that comes into play. its the lift and duration. if ur stock cam has a 9mm lift and u throw a cam that has a 12mm lift on the same valvetrain u will definitly float a few valves even if u dont go beyond stock redline.
i would say crower 402's are your best bet. crower 402's arent big enough to damage the stock valve springs but it is always a good idea to swap out the springs. you could even do a set of itr valve springs and run the crower 403's if u wanted. 402's are the max for the stock springs.
good luck with your setup.

I'd suggest upgrading the valvetrain with any performance Stage-X Cam. Yea, there are guys running 403s with stock redline, and stock valvetrain...and have been fine...but it's mostly good fortune. If you ask those guys why they didn't upgrade the valvetrain, their answer is usually
''Because I can pick up a new block for the same price as the Springs/Retainers...because I do the labour myself, I can afford to float a valve if it were ever to happen.''
All you need is one weak OEM valve not to spring back fast enough, and the piston will smash into the valve. It's a very nice 'peace of mind' mod with any cam...
Everything said here is correct....but there HAS (and rarely) been engine boooms with Stage 1 cams and older valvetrains....so up to you.
...But as an engineer I tend to overdo things, and overengineer systems

crower 402's are junk, nothing against no one. But if you'll going to buy cams, you might as well upgrade your head package. You won't really feel a difference with 402 without proper tuning. Going through all the hassle of upgrading your cam, and then getting a chipped ecu and dyno time, you might as well spend the extra 300 on a valve upgrade. You will thank yourself in the end.
