does anyone have pics of what a cable tranny looks like?
just want to see how it looks just so that nobody tries to sell me a 92-95 or later car with that tranny in there.
oh! in that case, here are a few tips.
1. the cable transmission has an arm on the front that can be moved up and down. this releases the clutch plate.
2. on the hydraulic transmission, this arm is much smaller, and moves side to side on the front. it has the same function, only you will notice a rubber boot that houses the slave cylinder.
3. on a cable transmission, the clutch cable will run along the side of the motor, to the top of the trans.
4. on a hydraulic transmission, you will see a metal line that runs along the frame, and to the slave cylinder on the trans.
what kind of car are you buying? what year?
anything pre 1991 should have a cable transmission.
anything post 1991 should have a hydraulic transmission.
there are kits that will place a cable transmission into a hydraulic equipped chassis. it will be quite obvious that this has been done. the arm that moves up and down will have the slave cylinder rigged vertically to it.
the slave cylinder is only about 4 inches long and about an inch wide, and will have a metal line running out the back of it.
