what material is that?
it's easier to start on flat...get that down first...work on heat control, penetration, consistency, then move to pipe....

you can do a couple things to improve...
less wire speed
bit more voltage
if you are getting big welds like that, either speed up on the welding or turn down the wire speed. Looks like you got some penetration through the metal, so heat might be right, just lower the wire speed a bit.
Work on penetration before "pretty" welds.
