EGR, code 12, check engine, i searched just need clarification :)
So, i just put back my old beater on the road
91 Accord LX, stick, 330 000 km
So, when the car came at normal operating temp, and i'm crusing at stable speed, i get a check engine, code 12. (EGR)
If I shut off the car while runing and restart it, the check engine came in after like 2min of normal operating ...
If i kick the **** out of the car, no check engine ... at idle, no check engine ...
No idle problem, car run normal even with the check engine light on.
If the check engine came on, it won't shut off until I shut off the car.
If i disconect the battery, the code disapear. After like 5 minute of crusing, check engine came on again.

So, i searched here and cb7tuner and i have 3 choice i think
1. The egr port on the IM are full of carbon build up
2. The egr valve is full of crap
3. The egr valve is broken/malfonctional
But I dont know where to look first ... i searched for a DIY ou detailed information but I don't find anything specific for my f22a1.
Do you have any idea or get similar symptom ?
Thanks

The EGR should only operate when fully warmed up engine and while cruising maybe above 40 MPH, there are built in prerequisites before the EGR can operate. There should be plenty of info in the archives or at the top of the forum in the permanent section dealing with EGR malfunctions, its a very common problem.
The EGR valve is commanded on by the ECU through a solenoid and there are vacuum hoses involved. The ECU knows that the EGR is flowing gases by utilizing the MAP sensor to monitor a change in vacuum. The EGR Valve has a diaphram that may not be holding vacuum either.
Your Haynes manual or this site will give test procedures.

there is a write-up or two that is specific to the 90-93 Accord on how to clean the EGR passages located in the Accord FAQ.
I would first try cleaning the EGR valve and the passages and see if the CEL comes back or not.

OK, now the plan is:
Pull off the EGR valve to clean it ...
Clean the TB ...
If it does't work after that, i think i will get another IM because i don't really want to **** with my EGR ports and ''SUPER'' plugs ...
The only thing i'm worrying about is the fact that i will probably broke some bolt ...
We will see ... for now, my gaz milleage is not really good and I pollute the planet

even if you get another IM I would still clean the egr ports cause you never know the history on the part, so it may be even worse than you current one. Might be fine too, but you wont know for sure.

Yeah I know, but it came from a prelude with 1/3 of my mileage ...
Im pretty sure it is in better condition. But for sure, I will try to ''CLEAN'' every ports ... Possibly egr port too if I have time ... but I don't have time with school
I will let you know the result
