Brake Squeak
For a few weeks my cars brakes have been squeaking a little, I assumed it was not a big deal and just needed an adjustment. I brought the car to the dealer where the brakes were replaced about 15 months ago. They told me that there is a film over the rotor caused by high speed braking. The only solution they had for my problem was to replace the rotors and the pads. I asked if the rotor could be resurfaced they said they don't think so. Has anyone else had a similar problem, this seems strange to me and I think the dealer is not being completely honest or they are just not very good. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yea the car is an 02' with about 58k on it.
hey,
best thing would be to take it to another mechanic, sounds like they want your money
you could just take the pads out and give them a scuff with some 280 grit sandpaper or just put some new pads in, it might also be that they are down to the squeelers/warning which indicates they are worn and getting very low. you should be able to look at the pad in the calliper an see how much is left, might have to take the wheel off.
the disks should be fine unless you get vibrations from braking but you should be able to get them machined/skimmed which re-surfaces them, but im not 100% sure that they can glaze up i know that pads can. the disk will have a min thickness rating on them somehere probably on the back where it bolts to the hub. once they are below this minumum thickness you shouldnt machine them flat/re-surface them, and will need to replace them.

most rotors on new vehicle are throw-aways...meaning they cannot be resurfaced
