Default Reinstalling/reinstalling timing belt with auto tensioner

Don't flame me for reusing the auto tensioner. I just had to replace the valve seals, and the motor is getting rebuild in a matter of months anyway so I'll get the manual tensioner then when I've got more money.

Anyway: I'm looking at the helms and am a little unclear. It says steps 10-11 are for reusing the belt. Does loosening that maintenance bolt relieve tension? Do I skip steps 12-15?

How can you remove and re-install the Auto Tensioner without removing the lower timing cover ? You have to follow that whole page in order to successfully do the job. Crank pulley has to be removed, Lower timing cover, Balancer shaft belt in order to get access to the auto tensioner, and the tensioner itself. Re-installation is the reverse.

That's what I figured. What's the deal with steps 10 and 11 though? Why are those specific to reusing the belt?

Steps 10 and 11 are there if you plan on removing the belt from the cam gears and then later putingt timing belt back on in the same location. When you loosen and unscrew the maintenance bolt ( by hand ), it will eventually stop .. Thats when it has contact with the adjuster and the auto tensioner is fixed. Now when you remove the timing belt the tension on the belt should not change. ( Makes it easy to slide the timing belt back on. )
Since you already took out the tensioner, then none of this matters and you have to remove the latter components.
