Hello,

I have an '04 Accord EX sedan 4 cylinder. There is a high pitch whistle noise when I accelerate. It has been doing this for a long time. I have 70,000 miles on the car.

Alternator maybe? I got a cheap new one on my car and its whistling a year later! so buy a good one!

 

Is there no hint of a noise while idling, how about while parked at a higher RPM, if so then go to Sears and buy a mechanics stethoscope and use the metal tip to probe for bearing noise and pull the metal probe and its diaphram off and use the hollow tube to listen around for a sound such as a vacuum leak, you may even hear a bearing noise this way also.

 

There is no hint of noise while idling or while parked...It is there ONLY while accelerating. I call it my warp drive... It has been going on for about 20,000 miles. Would'nt the alternator have died by now, if it was that?

 

Maybe brake sensors telling you the pads need replacing?

 

It's definitely not the brake sensor, it's not that kind of noise..

 

Remove the alternator belt and / or any other belt and / or all accessory belts to troubleshoot, dont go too far without a water pump working. I could see an alternator making noise for a long time without going completely bad, an over tightened belt will kill the internal rear bushing. No way at all to make the sound while parked and accellerating, could even be a bad water pump bearing. A stethoscope should find a bad bearing or a vacuum leak.

 

do u have an intake on the car?? my freind had a 96 accord and the after market intake he put on it made a high pitch whistle noise when he accelerated.....it can be that maybe dependin on if u got a new intake or not lol......

 

No special intake, just stock parts..

 

check your muffler bearing, it may need adjustment...

no but really, has anyone given thought to electrical interfearance, like if an amp power wire is too close to the rca wires for subs... ive had that before, only heard it when i was moving.

 

does it sound like a turbo whistle? It can be caused by your stereo somehow. I remember reading it somewhere, if it sounds like its coming out of the speakers however. mine did it for a little while, but went away.

 

My car makes a faint, but audible, whine/whistle too. It happens with a combination of throttle position and higher RPMs. It does it when the throttle is pushed in more than 50% and gets louder as I push it more. I also have to be at higher RPMs for the sound to occur. So, that ends up being usually only when I accelerate.

It is the air whistling through the resonator, filter, through the air pipes, and over the throttle plate. You know, the fast moving air at higher RPMs and wide open throttle makes it. It might be the same issue as your car? (I don't know if my resonator is cracked or something, or if it is just natural to the car.)
