Couple of questions about my new Civic.
Hello all,
I just recently bought a 1993 Civic DX 2-Door Coupe. Now, it had sat for about a year before I bought it and began driving it... I just replaced the oil and tranny oil. That's all I've done with the car so far.
My questions are these:
1. When I make sharp turns, there is a loud knocking noise coming from the front driver's side tire. What is that noise from?
2. I drove a long distance the other day. When I stopped I felt the lugnuts on my front two tires. They were so hot it burned my fingers. What would cause that?
3. My speedometer doesn't work. How can I correct that?
4. Some of the lights on my console don't work. (i.e. - Lights behind the climate control, etc.) How can I fix those? <-- This one I might be able to do myself, I think I saw something in the FAQs section about it.
And last but not least...
5. Where do you get the money to do all this stuff to your cars?! LOL.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. - I bought the Civic because I've always loved the cars, there is an awesome community for them, and because of the general gas mileage, lol.

1. Check your CV boots on your axles. sounds like they are broken. you can get some axles for about $100 and they are pretty easy to install.
2. The lug nuts were hot because they are bolted to the the hub i think its called? every time you hit the breaks it creats friction which creats heat. which transfered to the lug nuts. no biggie i think.
3 and 4 Check your fuse box.
5. Sprint pays really good. especally if you sell alot of phones

your speedometer not working could be a bad vss, or a bad cluster. Check wires on VSS, try to find a cluster to borrow from a friend, and if none of that works, check junkyards for a new VSS
lugs are fine. check your pass axel and fuses as stated abouve.
money for modding hondas?
dude this **** is cheap
where else can you get a running longblock for a car for less than 300?

i agree. hondas (especially civics) are cheapest to modify b/c parts are so damn abundant. some of these people have had their cars for a while and little by little put them together. some have done insurance fraud, and some have money (or mommy and daddy).
1) sounds like CV joints r bad
2) friction
3) check ur fuses (and ur owner's manual if u dont know where they r)

If your lugnuts only are hot, I wouldn't worry about it. If the whole wheel feels hot, it may be a bad wheel bearing.
Other than that, I also suggest getting new axles to fix (1) and checking your fuses for (3).

1. Get a axle from autozone, its cheap and has a lifetime warranty.
2. Its fine
3. Either its a Vehicle Speed Sensor or the cluster is bad I would think.
4. Its easy to replace the bulbs, take your cluster out and replace away, should be a good first project
5. Get a good job, and save.
Oh, my honda is ******* expensive, I don't see how it would be considered cheap by any means if you want to have anything nice. Cams are like five bills, Seats can run a lot, if you want a LEGIT gsr swap that can run $3500 easy. Turbo Kit $3000. I have like $10k in my car and I bought it for 3.5k.
Cheap is a relative word depending.

While there are many cheap things to do to our cars, there are also some insanely expensive mods.
Just remember that some cars are built on plastic. You need to decide if that's the way you want to go. I prefer only spending real money.

the clickin noise you hear when your turning very well could be your axle..make sure there not torn, if they are **** could of got in it or dryed out the greasebecause i mean it was sitting for a year...it also could be youur tie rod....my outer tie rod on my passenger side is shot and it makes a wicked click noise when i turn right
Thank you all very much for the answers/suggestions.
I have another question... The previous owner had lowered the car. I have no idea how much. How can I tell? Also, once I do... what is a good way to determine the size of tires/rims I can put on it? (i.e. - Like people putting 15-17" tires on a car that comes stock with 14's. Or have they "LIFTED" their car, not lowered it?)

There isn't really a way to tell how much the car was lowered before. As long as the underside of the car and the oil pan isn't scratched up or damaged you should be fine.
Most people go with 15's or 16's, its really a personal preference though, just look at some car with both sizes of rims and form your own opinion.

i have bronze 15' 5zigens on my black coupe and they look sexxy if i might say.......but thats cuz there light.....if your looking to go really low for looks only then i would say 16' with low profiles....but if your looking for looks and performance i would get 15' with falkens or later down the road g-forces (if your lookin to do high performance)...but thats me....it deff. is up to you, its your preference
