Default Backfiring Problem

Hello People i have an issue and i need advice. I have a 1991 Honda Civic DX Hatchback
That i've owned for about 2 years. Last year i replaced the engine because the ZC motor that came with it blew. After i put a stock D15b1 in it ran fine until 4 months ago. It started to backfire out of nowhere, I have major power loss under 4k rpm and it backfires when idling as well. One of my friends who's a mechanic checked the distributor and he said it was fine so i have eliminated that as the culprit. I changed the spark plugs and it seemed to reduce the problem but not get rid of it. When i checked the spark plugs 2 of them had oil on them but not within the area where they ignite. My plug wires are old but not in bad shape, i checked under the hood with the engine running in the dark and couldn't see any flying sparks so they must be good. The timing is a little off but it never backfired with off timing before. I know the O2 sensor is bad but even that from what ive read will not cause backfiring. Ive read in the archived posts here it could be a fuel injector problem but im kinda looking for all scenarios. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Change out the distributor with one from a good running car. I would still say the distributor is the culprit. Also, make sure your spark plug cables are in the correct firing order.

Its not the firing order as ive checked that. Ill check the timing belt today just to be sure though, and yes the distributor is good.

The only way to be 100% certain the dizzy is good is if you can take it from your car, bolt it onto another and it works perfectly. So if you have not done this step, don't be quick to eliminate the dizzzy as the culprit.

Otherwise you can't be certain. I've bought 7!!! "known working" and "rebuilt" distrubutors that wouldnt work in any of my z6's, yet all my actual good ones can be intechanged between the cars without a problem.
