Default Crankshaft Position Sensor Problem

So my car threw a trouble code for the crank position sensor, and I went out and bought one, it was a Honda one.

Light came back on shortly after, since then I've changed the sensor again, with a different sensor, and the light still came back.

I'm running everything totally stock on a 2000 EX coupe 1.5SOHC

Anybody have any idea where I should start looking to possibly fix this problem, or what else it could possibly be? In searching i found some mention of old timing belts causing this problem on other cars, could that be possible?

Anything is appreciated. Thanks!

The sensor that you replaced is it the one thats on the oil pump?? IF it is than thats the crank fluctuating sensor. That one is replaceable. BUT theres a crank postion sensor in the distributor thats NOT replaceable. maybe you replaced the crank fluctuating sensor but your problem is in your distributor. If not the only thing it could be is a cut or corroded wire or bad ecu. If the problem is in the distributor you have to replace the whole thing.

yeah, i changed the one down below, near the crank.

i'll get the trouble code again just to make sure which one it was, but i believe it was 3182 or 3128.

and i recall it saying crankshaft 'position' sensor on the scanner..

oh well, i might have to buy a distributor eh?

P1381 Cylinder Position (CYP) Sensor Intermittent Interruption

This is in your distributor. Since you reset your ecu and it came back then its probably not intermitten. Try a different distributor and see if it goes away.

I've got the distributor changed, jumped the service check connector, but there is NO WAY I can get this thing timed right.

I advance it as much as I can, and still, I'm nowhere close.

Could I be missing something? Somebody please help.

have you actually checked the timing, like the timing belt? could it be off which would then cause you to not be able to adjust the dizzy enough.

also is it the right dizzy?

I havent checked the timing belt, but the thing is that it was perfectly fine before i changed the distributor, my only reason for changing the distributor was because of that sensor in it being dead. I've checked the timing with a timing gun and everything though...

I checked with the parts place to make certain that it was the right distributor, so I'm sure they didn't screw up.. (The parts place is the supplier for most of the mechanics in my city.. They've got a good rep)

I guess if its the case that BOTH distributors were screwed up, that I could go to a store and buy a different one. But the problem with that is they'd be special order, and usually, you cant return special order stuff in the case that I still had the problem...

Maybe you installed the dizzy in the wrong position and that is why it is out of range now...

its pretty impossible to install it in the wrong position.. the teeth on the end of the rotor are offset from center, so you can't put it on 180 off..

Other than that I really can't see a way to install it wrong.

I still just cant get it right.
