Default Is this a bad release bearing?

No pics, but yesterday I finally took out my wagon with a DOHC ZC swap. The clutch I know is good, as I pulled it from another car which was working great prehand. The tranny, with the throwout bearing, came from my brother who said it was fine in his car.

Now, when I realease the clutch, floor it, or downshift the whole thing makes an incredibly horrible metal grinding noise and I thought it was a bad throwout bearing. Also, the clutch is super sensitive, it's either it's not engaged or fully engaged within 1/4" of the ground, not where I like my clutch.

Also, the clutch slipped pretty good when I quick shifted into second gear. Something it did not do in the previous car. What's the deal?

May be a dumb question, but are the clutch cable and pedal adjusted to spec?

Does the clutch chatter when in neutral and the clutch is disengaged?

It's adjusted to what I normally set it at, which has never been a problem. Only a slight amount of slack in the cable and lever just so my bearing is not putting constant pressure on it.

No, at idle it makes no noise and when disengaged it also makes no noise, in the lower gear. But when I'm in 3rd or 4th, it makes noise. It's a really odd problem. Normally I would rip it all apart but I have a new job now, and it consists of lots of OT and very little personal time. Although I might be getting a new clutch for free so I may rip it apart anyways.

Any one with any personal experience please come forward. I would like confirmation before I rip the whole thing apart.

Yeah, that is a wierd one. Usually you can tell if you let it idle and push in the clutch and let it out. The noise should be when the pedal is out. You might try it with some rpm's and it might show up.
But only in third and fourth???? I dunno....

Well boys, figured out what it was...

It was second gear . I only got to go about 2kms from the shop when it blew up. I just pushed it back. ******* PITA! Oh well, this **** happens. Hopefully some kid will trade my B series LS dizzy for a DX tranny.
