Default Where to purchase valve seat cutters for Honda/Acura heads

I'm looking to price a good seat of seat cutters to do some valve seats. Anyone know any good places online where I could look at some kits/prices? Google isn't much help. Even something used would be great.

Are you talking about cutters that you will actually use on a seat and guide machine, a la serdi, newen, or something hand held, like Neway's stuff?

I figured for what I am doing (a few heads here and there) that a handheld setup would be the best route. I used a handheld set in engine reconditioning back in college and had excellent results with them. I'm just tired of paying people to do my heads and having the valves leak afterwards.

In your previous experience with the handheld stuff, was it on 4V import stuff? Did you have access to a runout gauge?

The head I performed work on was an LS head.. B18A head to be exact. I did have access to a runout guage at the time.. why do you ask? Something wrong with handheld seat cutting?

Would this be a good starting point? Obvisouly I would need additional cutters. I'm not sure what angles that one even allows for...

Nothing so much "wrong" with handheld cutting as there is "not right". Sorry if thats cryptic.

First, you may think the pressure youre applying with your palm during the rotation of the "T" cutter is even all the way around the seat, but it isnt. Not even close. Second, there is no provision for a dial indicator to be added into the setup to allow for consistent seat heights.

It is my personal opinion that Neway stuff is OK for a rebuild on stock stuff, provided the operator has 1/2 a brain. But for anything high performance, dont even look at it. I think they are also useful at roughing in angles quickly on a dummy head for flowbench development work.

FWIW, you can buy directly from Neway. I might have a contact for you. If youre having problems getting a VJ to seal , find another shop. Where are you located?

I am in the Sacramento area. Comptech is no longer around, so I don't have anyone else whom I know for sure will do quality work in the area.

No, not at all. Just a local shop. I had a valvejob done there before with no problems.
