Default engine heat problem on civic ex coupe 1998

Hi guys, this is my moms car, yesterday she took her car and there was a trailer already hooked up to it. I dont really know what happened there but she told me that she drove the car normally and suddenly the engine heat gage started to go higher than usual... and went up right up to maximum in no time.

Today, i went to visit her and i check the car, this is what i did:

- I started the car and left it running until the heat needle moved to the normal spot.

- I could tell when i touched the hose that connect the head to the radiator that it was hot... and that there was pressure in the hose.

- After a little while, the radiator fan went on. The heat gage always stayed at the normal spot... but the car was only idleing. I would say that i left the engine running for a good 10 minutes and the radiator fan never came off.

I assume that the thermostat allways stays open right?

I got my moms car towed right up to my place since all my tools are here.

I need your help, your experience...

thanks

Marc

have the rpms sit at like 2 and half and let the engine get hotter and see if the fan kick on maybe thats your problem. also check coolant level. work from their.

her car is at 60 000 miles and she was only bringing back a trailer empty from my place to hers... smal trailer there 4 x 8 and i can assure that she did not push the car to much...

I dont think her water pump makes noises but anyhow i will change her timing belt shortly and then i could see if it's going or not.

so you think that just by changing the TS would not resolve entirely the problem?
