Default Cant shift into reverse

I cant shift into reverse. At first I would have to go to first before going to reverse, probably a solanoid thing. Then one day, I was hardly able to get it into reverse, I had to push pretty hard just to get it in the position. Now I cant even get the stick into the reverse position. Is this a bushing/shift linkage problem, or is there something wrong with the transmition? Ive also heard something about a pin that might be loose/broken in the shift mechanism...

This pin you've heard about connects your shift linkage to your a piece on your tranny. (Sorry I don't know the name) First of all, before going into reverse I would always go into 1st or 2nd gear and then reverse. I hear your supposed to do that but not sure if its true. It became a habbit of mine so I do it automatically. Another thing I would say is make sure your going into reverse correctly. Instead of all the way right and then straight down, for me it would sometimes be all the way right then down and over to the right like a tinny slant.

Just my $.02 Sorry if im no help or are wrong about this.

i can't imagine that pin every breaking.

have you tried to "blip" the gas pedal? that's what i usually do when going into reverse.

it has something to do with the synchros and jesus on tuesdays and muhammad's handball victory.

i think its a common problem in all B series trannys. simply going to first and back to reverse has always done it for me.

look at the sereal number on the tranny it says it right their in fron of the trans by the block were it meets.
as to your problem its worn sancros. like the other dude said just put in 2st and then throw it in reverse it helps slow the sancros down for a smooth shift.

I have a 95 civic ex with its stock engine/tranny. Its not even possible to shift into reverse at all. Ive tried putting it in 1st/2nd before going to reverse, tried the gas blip, tried with the car in movement a little...nothing works. I cant even put the shifter into the reverse position.

Its not a trick. Its how to operate a Honda transmission. How about you do a tranny flush and put in the proper Honda MTF?

If it was tranny fluid thats the problem, I would have problems with 1st through 5th as well. They work perfectly. Its just reverse, and I cant even shift into the reverse position.

Were you completely unable to shift into the reverse position? I cant even force the stick to go to the bottom right, let alone do anything with the clutch. This is the same when the car isnt started, so I dont think its a clutch thing.

Should I go in to a transmition shop, or is anyone able to tell me something specific mechanically wrong? Im still thinking its either solanoid, reverse pin, or linkage bushing...

My problem isnt that its hard to shift into reverse, although it used to be... But now its virtually impossible to get into the bottom right position wether the car is on or off, clutch in or out. It will never go into position. Not when it feels like, never. And thanks for the great advice. I checked my oil and wires. Oddly enough, that didnt do anything....

Your reverse gear selector arm could be bent. This is the arm that slides the reverse idler gear into position inside the transmission.

Ask Mista Bone if you want a 100% answer. I've cracked a few transmissions open before, but he's the man when it comes to Honda trans's.

Just my $0.02.
