alright i think i figured it out whats going on...how many grounds are supposed be on the valve cover? its a b16 in an 89 dx hatch. i've got one coming off of the front of the valve cover to a bolt right above the radiator bracket. should there be more?

just one on the valve cover.. but it isnt as crucial as the tranny mount ground... or the ground from the body to the battery. sand down each of the grounding spots to make sure it has a good connection
