Indeed. They ARE hard to come by. How did you aquire it?

As far as I know, all modern clusters are tamper proof to make sure that public and private sellers of automobiles don't pull fast ones over on other buyers by rolling the odometer. You can try, but I'm sure you'll end up braking it.

I think he has the opposite problem. To the OP, I just wouldn't worry about it, it's not worth the trouble.

with my old subaru mechanical cluster I just used a drill to spin the speed sensor really fast for a wile until the milage matched lol. sorta ghetto but if u run out of options.

I've heard of dealerships being able to calibrate clusters but that might just be with digital

I saw, sometime back, not on this site, a few multimeters hooked up in sequence to provide the necessary 5 volt pulses that spinning the VSS would produce.
But yeah, these only go forward, you would have to take it apart and break it to go backwards.

taking it to the dealer actually doesnt sound like a bad idea, just ask them if they can roll the miles foward to match your cars current

You will probably have difficulty locating any useful threads here, mainly because of the potential for the information being used dishonestly to defraud someone. You should be able to contact your local DMV and properly document the cluster replacement so there are no issues as far as the title or registration are concerned.

you don't have to 'break it' to change them back. It's very easy to do if you follow that thread that was posted. These clusters aren't very high tech, there is no big secret to doing it. Follow that thread the best u can without the pics, and you'll be able to roll the #'s with your fingers, pm me if u need help.

Only if you commit fraud when selling the car. You can legally change out the cluster. There is a check box on the pink slip that says "Not actual Miles".

Is it possible to take the needles off and recalibrate them by yourself?

If so I would love to see an article on how to do that.

I installed a jdm itr cluster into my gsr. I wanted my odo from my gsr to be installed into my jdm cluster so I can resume proper mileage count.

So I swapped the odometers out.

I don't have pictures so ill try my best to explain.

A method I used to take the needle off was by using 2 dinner spoons. I forced the tip of the spoons on 9 and 3 o'clock then gently proceeded to lift the needle by pressing down on the spoons simultaneously. should pop right off with ease.

calibrating the needle wasn't so easy. someone might have a better and more accurate way of doing this. but this was my method.

I wired the cluster without the clear plastic shield and screwed it down in place. Turned the key to the ON position and installed the needle to the best of my ability. remember that the needle will be resting on that plastic pin @ 0mph
