How do I check the check engine light on my 2000 Prelude? On my ol hatch I just jumped the connector and turned the key on.

I'm heading on a 17 hour drive in a few hours and my engine light just came on. It smells like the cat convertor is bad but my speedo stopped working when the light came on.

Well, go to Autozone and ask to borrow OBD-2 reader. They will ask for your drivers lic. so that you wont steal the thing. (you can do this in the parking lot). On the passenger side, on the bottom left, take the corner piece off that is under the dash. Then put on the connector, turn the key (not all the way) and then it should read it automatically or you just do what it says. Write the codes down and take it to the store, give them the reader and the codes and they should tell you what they mean and what you need to fix it.
