Default Cheapest half descent swap?

Ok so I just bought a 91 civic hatch. The big reason I would like an engine swap is because the current engine has 300,000kms on it. But at the same time, I would like an engine with a little bit of "oumph" to it. I was quoted 2500$ (canadian) for parts + labour for a b16 swap. Is there any swap thats worth it, cheaper tho.

I'll also add that I am not looking for big power as I also currently own a turbo'd 2002 civic, just looking for something that can atleast touch a 15.9 on the 1/4

True, I'd go for the B18A that is pre OBD just to eliminate any additional wiring. Also, I have a DOHC ZC black top in mine, ran 15.135 on I/H/E with chipped ECU. The motor itself would probably be about the same price as a D16A6 or B18A, maybe cheaper. Also, the DOHC ZC doesn't need custom mounts and can use your existing tranny if needed.

The cheapest swap is going to be something like SOHC VTEC motor. Good power, proven reliability, and you don't have to buy motor mounts. After that I would look towards a B18A/B motor they have good power and you can always add VTEC head later. I stay away from DOHC ZCs cause they all seem to blow up or spin rods.

i vote for B18A1 makes for a good daily driver with all that torque on the low end. a SOHC is cheaper but still pretty gutless, this is coming from someone with a Z6

I think a sohc zc would do you good. I have one in my rex and it cost me $400 form hmotorsonline.com. The motor is rated at 118 hp supposedly and i must say they rip for what they are. I was quite impressed with my rex once i did the swap and couldnt of been more pleased for the money. The best part is it is a direct swap assuming you already have mpfi and i achieved 55 mpg in my rex going to the beach and back all freeway one day with a dx tranny. Good Luck

Remember cheap parts equals cheap performance. Invest in parts you know will not on fail you.

I would go with a b18b. Not hard to find and very easy to install the only thing that will cost extra is the hasport mounts. My friend owns a junkyard and has an integra with the b18b. you can easily come across this kind of deal. He is charging 600 for the full swap not including the hasport. great start! all and all you will be looking at about $800to $900.

Default K all the way

Truthfully you could do a K-swap for around $3-4k I'd say that's your best bet! And in my opinion the longer you wait to do a K-series swap the more expensive it will become.

Then I read you're looking for 15.9 second car, in which I'd say D15B would be the best swap for the money. It'd probably be a little faster than that too.

I would say the longer you wait the cheaper it will be. It's the same with everything else in the world.

Plus, who does a K swap for 3k?

srsly. Maybe parts for a 2.4 if you pull everything yourself and do all the fab.....but that just wouldn't be worth it.

I meant the longer the wait, the more expensive it will be. You can piece a K series together for dirt cheap right now... https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1
The Accord K24 bottom end can be had for around $500. Then a type R head. Hasport mounts. Linkage. Tranny. Wiring. DONE. it's really easier than you think

I'm in love with z6's. I have three cars with em in there. Fuel efficient, cheap to buy/upgrade, and a decent amount of power.

I should note that I've never owned a B, though if performance is more important than economy, a simple LS swap or B20 swap would be a sweet motor for a daily, and relatively cheap. With the Bs though you have to invest in mounts, linkage, tranny, axles....

SOHC zc or D16Z6 are my votes. You can buy one in good shape and install it for under $500 and it's a pretty sweet upgrade from an mpfi d15b2, even moreso if you're moving up from a dpfi b2 and converting to obd1.

Edit: The JDM D15B sohc vtec motor is a formidable contender in the the sohc swap list. I'd like to get my hands on one of those someday

Try and find a wrecked 90/91 integra that way you will have all the parts
but the mounts for a b18a swap, strong motors mine in my si ran 15.1
stay away from the zc it's hard to find part for them.

i would go with a b18 for daily drive. i have on in my rex and i have one with a b16. the b16 is fun on weekends but the b18 is a better daily drive in my opion. i have a b18b wireing harness and ecu for 400 if you are interested.

My .02

D16Z6, It's a SOCH VTEC from 92-95, You'll need to convert to OBD1, but you will have some tuning options and this engine it awesome. Have fun spending your cash...You'll have more with a SOHC...

you could do a k-swap for 3k if your a hot-boi (NE lingo for car theif). D16Z6 is by far the best mpg/performance/cost motor you can put in your car.
