Default B18C burning oil

Hello everybody,

I've recently done a swap in my CRX EE8 (european B16 CRX). I put in a JDM B18C 98 spec engine (200hp 11:1cr). It wasn't used for about one year. After changing the neccesary parts (timing belt, tensioner, water pump, spark plugs, oil etc..) it was tuned with bre and runs a bit rich. With the stock B16 intake it made 196 peak hp with a nice curve so looks prety good for a stock engine. The problem is it burns quite alot of oil (when accelerating with trhrottle wide open and changing gears). I can even see blue smoke behind the car sometimes and smell the burnt oil. It's alsoclear when I check the oil dip stick from time to time.
I've done a compression test (engine warm, throttle wide open, good gauge). I've done it twice and the results where 243,245,235,243PSI for no. 1,2,3,4 cyl. (I've also done it with a different gauge but it was scaled only to 220 psi and the readings went out the scale for each cyl). Doesn't look too bad I think. I don't think it's the valve seals, wchich are causing so much oil burning. Is it possible that the piston oil rings are worn and the piston sealing rings allright. What else could I chceck before I take down the cyl. head. Could it be affected due to the long time the engine wasn't used? Any tips??

If it burns oil then its far away from good.

B18 is suppose to burn oil, it just depends on how much it burned. for example lost a litre after runing a full tank of gas is not normal.

Put a can of Restore in it, see what happens.

I have a similar situation with my Built B17 and believe that the problem is in the head.

Unfortunately, you've got a ring seal problem.

Rings isnt the only thing that causes oil to burn.

Do a compression test, whats a b18c supose to be, like 270 i think

thattll show the condition of your rings, do a leak down test and see how your valve seals are

270 is nominal, straight out of factory, anyway I guess there's no other way than take it apart

270psi is ****** high. my 13.5:1 85mm gsr makes only just under 300psi and thats brand new motor.

my jdm gsr 10.6:1 did 200-201-202-200 across 1-2-3-4.....and it only had 25,000kilometres on it. (15,500 miles)

anyways if its burning on accel then its probly your rings im guessin
