Default got me a set of SSR Type-Cs... need your opinion on an idea for them

As the title of this thread reads, I just purchased a set of 16-inch SSR Type-C wheels for my 1997 Honda Prelude.

On most wheel brands ( such as Enkei, Konig, Axis, etc. ), you will see many different models come in many different finishes. Moreover, you will see owners of these wheels paint and powdercoat them in many different ways and styles.

However, the SSRs are different, because the color kind of defines the wheel. For example, not having a polished lip on them is how you tell that they are the Type-Cs and not the Competitions. It seems like altering the color on JDM wheel brands such as SSRs and Ray's kind of kills the identity of the wheel.

On these SSRs, I really would like to paint the outer lip of them red and powdercoat the rest of the wheel gloss black. The only thing holding me back is what I described above. Seeing as how you guys have had more experience with unique wheels than I have, could you please verify or shoot-down my reasoning. Would a show car judge take-away points from my car for altering the color on these wheels? Would a trained eye be able to still tell that they are real SSRs and not the Speedy Star knock-offs?

In my opinion, it would depend on the condition of the wheels, if they're very good/mint/near new/new, I would leave them how they are..
If they need to be touched up/painted, then do it.

A person that knows their wheels will be able to tell you if they're authentic or knock-offs just by looking at them.

Besides, you'll have the stickers on the inside of the wheels that show what they are.

The wheels are brand new... I just bought them yesterday and I am the original owner. If I had the wheels powdercoated, wouldn't they have to remove that sticker from the inside of them?
