Engine Power Loss During Acceleration and just Cruising
So as I drive along the engine shudders and loses power temporarily. Feels like it's being jerked backwards by something. Anyways I took the car into the dealership and turns out the entire ignition system has been failing. $400 later I have new wires, rotor, distributor cap, and coil. A few days later the cars problem resurfaces, I call the mechanic and he says it could be due to the EGR ports being clogged or dirty.
Is that an accurate diagnosis? I figure it to be a pretty expensive undertaking too. Does anyone know of an easy way to clean these or if my problem can be tested to confirm this?
Car info:
1993 Accord
254,500 miles... that may be the problem too
Thanks for helping

Cleaning out your EGR ports on your intake manifold will make a big difference. Power wise, idle, running alot smoother. I had the same probably on both my 95 accord and the 93.
Wouldn't hurt to try it out and theres a nice write-up on the forums about it. Look it up

There is a EGR cleaning post in the FAQ for the Accord forum. It's in the top 7 or so topics and is a sticky.
I just completed doing this myself.
Suggestions:
Go to Honda and get SIX EGR replacement plugs first! There only $0.30 a piece!
Release the pressure on the fuel rail, then remove the fuel rail.
The plug closest to the passenger side will require a little caution and finesse. It's not a problem, you just need to make sure you get the puller around the bolt for the fuel rail without buggering it up. (you probably will have to angle it a bit when screwing it into the plug)
Use a center punch!! Punch the plugs hard enough that they are slightly driven down.
Use a 1/16 inch drill bit, coat it with grease on 1/2 inch of the tip and drill all the way through the existing plugs, then do the same using a 1/8 inch drill bit.
Thread the screw of the puller into the plugs by hand until hand tight, kinda like your oil filter tight.
DO ALL SIX PLUGS!! theres four on one line, then two more in line towards the motor.
Use plenty of Carb Cleaner (two cans should be more than enough) and make sure you angle the jet tip into the ports that run front to back and side to side in the intake.
Dental picks are good for digging through the carbon in the ports and make sure you push the pick or coat hanger through the hole in the bottom of each port.
Everything mentioned is very obvious when your doing it, so don't worry, it's a simple task with just basic common sense and basic hand tool knowledge!
It will probably take some cranking before you will get your car running after reassembly, and smoke like a bitch for quite some time with all the carbon and carb cleaner. Mine took probably 45 minutes to an hour to stop smoking just running in the driveway.

Thanks for the tips.
I think i need 2 tools. 1 being the bit that drills into the plugs and the other being a slide hammer. Can I get these at NAPA or O'Relieys? What are the technical terms for them if needed?
I will post pics this wednesday when I start the job.
