Default accord ticking noise/missing gear

Hey guys, i have an 82 accord, it has 170,000kms. It looks like it just rolled off the lot, granny driven. I have a loud ticking noise, im almost completely positive its a valve. Took it to the stealership and they said its the cam. Ive been reading a lot of posts on ticking noises and the general concensis is a valve adjustment, thoughts?
Second question, its an auto trans and it wont shift into over drive, could fresh tranny fulid solve this, or is this the trans dieing?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

a valve adjustment will probably do you good...
as far as your trans, id say that the torque converter lock-up clutch is either fried (prolly not the case) or the solenoid that controls it took a dump (more likely)
either case, id say do a flush, and see where its at, and go from there.
