Default B16B to 1.8 conversion what pistons

Alright, I'm going to be making my B16B a 1.8 using LS crank (stock) and ls rods (eagle) what pistons would I use just b16. The motor is turbo'd already so I'm looking to get 9:1 compression when I'm done down from 10.8:1.

(B16B Block is the same as GSR ITR block with b16/itr head)

sorry but i dont think thats gonna work. stroke is too big for a 1.6 bottom end.

the b16b is the same bottom end as an itr or gsr 1.8 bottom end it uses b16a crank with longer rods to make up for the difference in stroke.

It's basically a de-stroked ITR, with a R/S ratio higher than a B16. Kinda neat, but a little over-priced IMO

Just buy a b20 bottom end and you wont regret it.

I mean if your using a ls crank and stock ls rods and you want to use stock pistons of the ls.

But in your case then just get some 9:1 je pistons. Get them for the ls block, should turn out the same shouldn't it?

Would like to know as well

it should. if ur gonna go with eagle rods then u have to go with an aftermarket piston. oem pistons wont mount on eagle rods. i would reccomend je though. im using eagle h-beams and je pistons on my gsr.

the thing that gets me is the combustion chamber is larger on a b16/itr head larger than a ls or gsr head. That's why I don't understand.

what dont you understand

gsr heads have quench pads for higher compression and is less prone to detonation. In the end they are all matted to 81mm blocks. the size of the combustion chamber (in general) has nothing to do with bore sizes. take a look at a v8 head, for example.

Wrong, the gsr head has better quench pads so you can run a very agressive timing map and not detonate.

BTW, the usdm gsr has 10:1 compression.

The gsr head quench pads were not originally designed with compression greater than the stock compression (10.1 usdm or 10.6 jdm).

If you are stating that the quench pads will aid in staving off detonation due to higher compression or agressive timing map that is correct, .

The B16B uses a B18C bottom end.

Same deck height as the b18 blocks - yes.

Same stroke as b16a - yes

Longer rods and taller pistons w/ a low wrist pin to make up compression - yes

What exactly are you arguing?

bootlegcivic: why would you want to stroke a b16b when you could just get an LS bottom end and build that to your specs? I am sure there are plenty of people that would take that unmolested b16b off your hands for a decent price.

I'm using P30 pistons- leaving me with around 11.5-1 cr, and require no machining to fit ls rods.
