Default Clutch Won't Disengage

Alright well this started happening a few days ago and it's been getting worse and worse.
Basically what happens is that I start the car in first gear with the clutch DEPRESSED and it still stalls out.

Also, I've just been having a tough time in general shifting in all gears when I'm actually driving.

I know this means that the clutch isn't fully disengaging but what can cause this besides master and slave cylinder?

Lastly, how would I actually know if the master or the slave is shot?

Hydro...sorry, forgot to mention the car is a '95 GSR

Also, I just checked the slave cylinder and I believe it is still working properly b/c I looked inside the boot and it was still moving that metal rod when I engaged the Clutch.

I would try bleeding it out first, and if you're not getting sufficient flow, I'd call the master. If you take off the slave and you have a busted seal on the inside of the boot, replace that.

Well if the slave cylinder is still moving that metal rod isn't it safe to say that the slave and master cylinder are fine?

Come on guys, someone has to have some suggestions or offer some type of help?

Another guy posts talking about how he misses his integra because he can't use it for the week (which isn't tech-related in the least) and he's got a full page of responses.

Bump... waiting for any suggestions besides master or slave since both appear to be working fine.

Just because they appear to be fine doesn't mean they are. Did this just happen all of a sudden? The cause could also be a toasted release bearing or fork. If they have been worn real bad, it won't push the disc as far away as it used to. Another possibility is contamination on the disc (from perhaps a leaking rear main), but you'd be likely to have engagement problems as well.

Well I finally got it into gear today while the car was actually running but there was a terrible grinding noise that would come and go from inside the clutch or tranny case. So any suggestions?

Check hte reservoir, if it is low then you have a leak somewhere. You need to find the leak and replace that part. Could be clutch master, slave or the line.

Not to be a dick or anything but the resevoir was the first place I checked quite some time ago.

The master and slave are both fine as the clutch pedal feels absolutely normal and the slave cylinder is moving the shift fork when clutch is depressed.

There is a very bad metal on metal grinding sound coming from in the tranny and it comes and goes when the car is on and I attempt to put it in gear. Any suggestions for internal problems that make that noise and don't allow clutch to release?

it's probably your clutch disc, i just did one on a 97 ls and the one of the springs were coming right out of the disc so sometimes it would engage ok other times it would grind against the flywheel, and it was very hard to shift. Some basic tools and instructions will get through a clutch job pretty easily if you haven't done one. oh and it could also be a broken tooth on your pressure plate. either way if it's that noisy i'd say the tranny's gotta come out.

Well since no one ever follows up when they finally get their problem fixed, I thought I'd break that trend.

Turns out it was just the clutch disc grinding up inside which caused sporadic engagement/disengagement problems. I had the car taken to a trusted shop (as I don't have the tools or the time to drop a tranny) and they dropped the transmission and cracked her open.

They showed me what was left of the clutch and the springs in the clutch that were literally coming apart. So for about $250 in parts I got a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. Total cost with labor ended up being $630 which isn't too bad for a clutch job.

As of right now, the car feels better than ever and she shifts like butter. You don't realize how much of a difference the clutch really makes until you drive with a shitty one for a while, and then get it replaced.

Does it go into gear when the car is off? If so, start the car in 1st gear and see what happens, let me know.
