CRX-Reliable stock?
Just bought my brother a 91 CRX, was wondering how reliable these nice little cars are, its completely stock, 120,000 miles. Anything I will need to look into?
Regular stuff you would with any other car. I would replace the timing belt unless you know it's already been done recently. If it's been taken care of, and continues to be, it'll last 200k+ easily.
Make sure the timing, alternator, AC(i/a) belts are changed every 60 to 90,000 miles, change the oil often, and dont overheat it....it will run forever if you stay on top of these services.

Mine's got 173k, haven't done anything since I bought it 8 months ago, besides oil/plugs/wires...I should do the belts, but it's gonna run me like a bunch of $ since I can't do it myself.
But it still pulls like a beeeeyotch compared to my 99dx, clutch is grabby but chatters a bit, and it squeaks only a bit more than my 99.
In other words, hell yeah they're reliable!! And strong! If anybody saw the new ImportTuner magazine, they dyno an 89 Si hatch, it still puts something like 90 hp to the wheels! But they don't say how many miles are on it.

Take a look at what you see on the road the next time you go out. Now due to the relative rarity of CRXs, you won't see many. But at least in California, you see PLENTY of 1988-1991 Civics (hatchbacks and sedans). And they all seem to run well. I pretty much never see any spewing out smoke from the tailpipe or pulled over with car trouble. The same cannot be said of other cars you see of this vintage. In fact, I rarely ever see any other cars this old on the road. You don't even see Corollas or Tercels (which are supposedly very reliable) of this vintage anymore. This says alot about the reliability of the 1988-1991 Civics. As for CRXs, they are basically the same car.

I have 180k+ on my hatch, and it runs great. No problems at all, except for the idiot who had it before me cracked the top of the radiator. Just keep up on the basic matainence and it'll last you a long time.
