Default help problems with gearbox or clutch?? help please

Hi, in order to identify the problem i will post what is happening. My car is a civic hatch vti in other words a b16a2 with fidanza flywheel, skunk2 pro IM etc. still in process of building.

PROBLEM-beginning of the year i switched my clutch for an aftermarket one since my old one was stock and with 110.000km . so i put in the new one and at the beginning it was rel smooth and felt great but switching gears became harder anda harder like if i had a short shifetr or something you could feel like a clikc switching gears but oh well ioi felt it was normal....But now for three days when i rev my car to 8-8.5rpm and switch to third gear it is scratching and hard to switch into the gear i haven´t been able to test all gears since i need a long road to do so. But I need to know from the experts what is seems to bethe problem could it be that the aftermarket clutch is too week and is not handling the power or is my gearbox messed up??? Please help i really don´t want to spent money like crazy buying the wrong things. If you guys know other tests i must do i will be greatful. Here in brazil there is a big number of guys who have hondas we love them but parts and engine work here is very difficult and most mecanics here suck and don´t know much about hondas....if you could help i would be greatful i spent lot´s of time in this forum reading and reading and ithas helped me a lot thankas a lot.....

You need to make sure your clutch is fully disengaging.

Easy way to check.

1. On a level street (no hill)
2. Put your car in first gear and keep the clutch pedal all the way to the floor.
3. Rev the motor to 3,000 rpms or so.

If your car moves forward you clutch is not full disengaging and you may need to adjust the rod connected to the pedal.

yes i just went to the street by my work and tried what you told me and the car didnt move at all . i reved it to 8rpm and nothing.
I than accelerated from 1st to second and second to third 1st to second didnt scratch but the third scratched a litle on both pulls. Now i noticed two things gear engaging is not very smooth second i tried to put from third to second and it was very stiff basically didnt want to engage. Seems like it gets more difficult to engage gears as it gets hotter....

Okay, check how much transmission fluid you have in your tranny.

what may have began as a poorly adjusted clutch is going to quickly become a ground up sycnro and mating gear if you keep abusing it.

well i took out the whole oil that was in the tranny ...and in inside was only about 2 liters and in the manual says 2.4 so it was short on oil ......the regulation of the clutch i haven´t checked yet since they said they could only look at it tomorrow

Some oil is always going to "stick" inside the tranny so the fact that you are a little short by measuring the amount drained is normal. Put in some Honda MTF and see if that helps you.

yeah man you really know your stuff man .....i took all the oil out and put in 2.4 liters of MTF and what do you know it is working great man ......it hasn´t scratched any gear since yesterday...the gears are engaging much better(smooth) I can basicallly say the problem is solved but I guess i have to wait maybe one more week to see. I am very happy so far, i was scared i broke the sinc from second to third that would really give me some serious problems....

When somebody builds a honda here in Brazil it is like a miracle due to the dificulties in finding some trust worthy mecanics and also the cost here is very expensive and tuners suck....

Thank you vey much for the help and i will keep you posted on the progress.

By the way I am planning on doing a port job myself on my b16 head would you recomend that or do you think I don´t have the skills. I been reading a lot and have the tools but don´t know if I should take a chance or not if you think it is possible maybe you can give me tips fotos or any internet site with how to´s

Thanxs a lot for the help

Glad things worked out. I studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and you Brazilians are crazy but very cool and friendly. That is for sure.

Your tranny should get smoother as it takes about 1,000km for tranny fluid to "break in".

As for the port work. Unless you plan to make more than 220whp a mild ITR style work is best. Don't touch the entry of the intake ports or the exits of the exhaust ports as there is NO RESTRICTION there.

Find a place that specialize in valve jobs for motorcycles and have them do the valve job for you AFTER you do the mild ITR style port work.

ITR Mild Job means just blend the area around the valve seat. Try to find pics of this on the internet.
