Default - My Brothers CRX Build Thread (56k...nope) -

Hey guys, I'm posting this for my brother simply because he doesn't have an account on here yet. Anyways, i'll start it from the top. My brother was in the market for a new car, he was looking to buy his first OWN car, preferably a crx.

Well after a couple of weeks of searching on craigslist for a car, and after looking at a half or so dozen "winners" (atleast we thought they would be) we found a white 90 crx for sale for only $1300. Well we decided to check it out because the ad looked promising. We showed up, but the guy had to leave, however his friend was able to show the car. My first thought as we pulled up was "IT'S A SI...YES" the badge on the rear and the sunroof looked like dead giveaways, but as i got closer i noticed that the sunroof was aftermarket.

Well after a couple seconds of looking at the body (which is pretty straight except for minor dings) i popped the hood. The ad said it had a y8 swap. Sure enough there was an y8 in there. However it's still DPFI!?!?!?!?!? WTF? So a MPFI and OBDI conversion are on the top of the list of things to do.

As far as other mechanical problems go, the car has a slipping clutch...the clutch slips so much it's like ******* a loose bitch with half a bottle of astroglide....not a huge issue as i have two spare d-series clutchs laying around. Also the previous owner messed up the wiring to the thermosensor on the block, so the car throws code 6 and the temp gauge barely works. On the topic of heat, the heater sucks at blowing hot air, so having the heater core replaced might be in order.

A pic of the ghetto wiring.

There is also a exhaust leak, but im not to worried about it. The exhaust is missing a couple flanges, but i will just pull them off my old exhaust that i had on my sedan. The car is also slammed if you couldn't tell. The fronts are lowered on some shitty coilover sleeves and stock struts. However, the rear has ground control sleeves still on stock struts. The fronts will be replaced with gc's too. Not to mention it will eventually get koni yellows.

The headlights were also painted yellow....which is pretty homo IMO, so that will be taken care of as well. The taillights are also cracked, and will need replacement.

Moving to the interior, you can notice that its missing most of it. It does however have a delsol seat and a momo steering wheel. Other than that, not much else sits in the car. We are currently in the process of searching for a complete set of the rear interior in blue. let me know if you have have pieces.

The first thing we did to the car, besides from a basic wash and clean out was installing an old jvc deck and eclipse speakers. (sorry no pictures of that process haha...not like any is needed anyways)

Anyways, plans for the car are big and should keep us busy while im not working on my car haha. We plan on cleaning the car up, detailing it a little bit, then start working the bugs out of it. Fixing the exhaust leak and the messed up thermosensor wiring will be first, then a MPFI AND OBDI conversion. I"m thinking of pulling the engine out and cleaning the bay so that when we do a wire tuck, it looks good. Also i will be putting in an alarm as well.

Eventually it will be all cleaned up and we will boost it. But that won't happen for awhile. Well thats pretty much it for now, we will try and update this thread often. Let me know what you think.

Well the car is still dpfi and obdo, so no vtec for now.

UPDATE:

Fixed the exhaust leak, turned out that the exhaust was loose in two spots. Tightened it up and bolted it all down. No more leak

After we fixed that we did a leakdown test and checked the timing. Leak down was good. 10,9,15,10. Which was a relief. The timing was also good, which was nice to know.

Here's some pics of the old-school leakdown tester.

When i was checking the timing, i noticed that the tach reads about 800rpm's too low haha. I actually haven't driven the car yet, i was basing everything off of my brothers word. How would i go about re calibrating it? Or should i just buy another cluster?

Which is a total shame. I was really hoping for the car to be mpfi and obdI but whatever, it was still a good deal.

My brother detailed the car today. The white shines pretty damn good for being so old.

The blue interior is also a dead giveaway that it's not a true Si. Still seems like a good deal

Pulled the engine out today. There wasn't a whole lot of curve ***** with this one, which was nice.

Took the tranny off and looked at the clutch. It was completely fried. Doesn't surprise me why it would barely drive haha.

Anyways, here are some pics for you guys.

Getting it ready to get pulled.

In the air.

Empty engine bay, that desperately needs a wire tuck and a good cleaning.

Pics of said clutch

Will be spending the next couple days doing a wire tuck and cleaning up the engine bay as well as repainting it white.

UPDATE:

Cleaned up the engine bay today and pulled all of the wires out for the tuck.

Starting the cleaning.

All finished up.

All the wires pulled through.

I'm gonna start routing the wires through tomorrow, and my brother is gonna start the repainting process.
