98 prelude auto Tranny to 97 manual tranny swap questions
Alright heres the deal! So my friend and i both have preludes, mine is a 98 automatic, his is a 97 manual. Hes giving his car to his girlfriend, but she doesn't drive stick. I work for a dealership so i have a mechanic that is fully capable of performing. Now i'm wondering if this swap is possible for a few reasons:
1. Will i need to swap ecu's, if so will the year difference be a problem? and will the keys for the cars still work if i do swap?
2. I have heard that 5th gen automatic transmissions are year specific?
3. Will i have to swap wiring for the tranny?
Please let me know if anyone has done that or knowledge of the the parts and ability to swap. Thanks!

search dude.
The key has to match the immobilizer in the ecu, so you can't swap with him unless you swap out the key cylinders too.
The trans will work as long as it is not from an SH.
You will have to wire up the reverse switch, that is an easy job.

Now that is a good question. Personally, I doubt it, but it could be possible. I don't think that honda would put all the stuff to support it in the software if they didn't have to.
