Default Transporting an engine in my crx

Hey guys I'm thinking about picking up this DOHC zc from a guy and he said that the head is seperated from the block. So basically its in two parts. I have a big plastic tub that I can put the head in but I'm struggling trying to come up with something for the block. I was thinking about making a wooden crate kinda like this

but I don't know how big to make it, dimensions, etc.

Anybody done this or have the measurements I would need? I am open to suggestions.

I transports a motor from Phoenix to Charlotte in the spare tire it fits perfect and was solid. Even under emergency braking no issues it never moved.

Well since the zc is a d-series engine, and you have the head off, it's basically the same size as the sohc d-series. I'm sorry I didn't include the dimension you can get those yourself, but why go through the effort to build a box when three people say it will fit in the spare tire.

when i had to transport a dohc ZC in a crv, i built a little wooden "stand" so to speak, like your little "diagram"...it just cradled the engine around the pan and it worked just fine....in case you dont have a spare tire well in w/e your driving...

Take an old tire (just the tire) and sit the engine on that and place it in the spare tire well with some basic tie downs.

I've transported 5-6 engines like that with zero problems.

I transported a full LS Swap in my CRX back when I had it. The head was off the block but I got it all in there.

I never thought that it would fit in the spare tire well. You learn something everyday

Get one of those big plastic bins at walmart, they are around 10-15 dollars. then strap it to your rear seat in the trunk.

YES!

ive done it several times this way. saves your back not having to lift it over the bumper. just over the rocker.

put a piece of cardboard or blanket down to protect the carpet and plastic. the crossmember that bolts to the front of the seat helps cradle the engine perfectly.

its easier to throw the passenger seat in the hatch quite frankly.

It seems so dangerous having it sitting right next to you like that...

And even worse like that

as long as you dont drive like a 2fast 2furious little bitch that double clutches on their d series engine and brake on a dime and turn corners like your on rails while the engine is in the spare tire...i think you should be ok...but if you're the other way(2fast 2furious) i hope your engine kills you.

then its 3 ft lift clearance vs 1 ft lift clearance.

i think the passenger seat is the better idea.

either will work. up to you and your back.

I've done the passenger seat transport method several times with no problems, albeit those were trips <100 miles.

Well if you want to get **** about it. You shouldn't be transporting a engine in the back or side of your car. it's a car not a truck. but like i said just take out the passaeger seat and put it their. if you feel that your going to be in a accident you shouldn't be driving at all. **** happens, to the best of us. by putting it in the passenger it's easy and you don't get a hernia.

I thought that having it sit in the wheel well would prevent it being able to move foreward, but ive never had an accident while transporting an engine in the wheel well so i couldnt say.
