Default ***Air Compressor/General Opinions Wanted***

Hey

I just picked this up...
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_1...&sNam

I was getting with intent of using it for anything from air tools to maybe even painting a car because I was wanting to eventually learn how. I talked with my neighbor who restores a lot of cars. He said it should be able to keep up painting and do everything I was wanting to do outside of sandblasting (no space to do that anyway). The main issue I was looking for something that was still on 110 and not 220. I would have to do an INTENSE amount of wiring to get it to my garage or run a big *** extension cord and unplug the dryer to use it. So this was the biggest I found while still being an oil lubed compressor and having the option of 110 or 220.

I kind of got screwed by sears. The compressor I received from them is rated at 1.8hp and 7.4scfm@40psi and 5.8scfm@90psi. It is listed on the website as 2hp and 8.6scfm@40psi and 6.8@90psi as well as everywhere else on the internet. So hopefully they will make this right or I might return this and go with something else. They are callling up the manufacturer at the moment and are going to get back to me on what they are going to do and why the one I received is different. Big mess that has really made me lose faith in sears/craftsman. Dealt with a lot of people the last few days about it and one big dick in particular today. Also the first one I got had a defective drain valve and on the second I had to realign the pump because the belt was off a tooth on the flywheel only to find out a day later it wasn't the compressor I had paid for (price matched off a website sale they had going on).

So what does everyone else have for their compressors? Especially those who have painted a car. Thanks!

from what i understand (im in the market for a compressor also) the bigger the reserve tank the better, but more importantly, look at the scfm. the larger the scfm the more capable the air compressor is to keep up with the tools. my dual action sander uses a ton of air and my compressor is on constantly. it will be the same with paint. i know when i clear coat with my sata jet rp, i shoot with between 80-90 psi.

he isn't talking about the gun pressure but the compressor pressure. actually its spot on. 25 gallon tank sounds a little small to spray a whole car but it may work. i would take it back just for the sake of getting what you pay for.
