any threat to s2000 about theft??
have any of you encountered your s2000 being eyed or threatened of being stolen??
and do any of you leave your cars parked in public with the top down? i've seen a few s2000's like this in the city, and wondered why the hell they would do that. sure, a proximity sensor might help, but i dont think that would scare professional thieves.
reason i ask, is because i'm thinking about getting one. i'm tired of being paranoid about my integra getting stolen. even if i'm in the store for 10 minutes

The S2K is not the car for you.
Seats are stolen left and right, and they are quite expensive to replace.

Yes, S2000s get stolen, however not as often as other Hondas like the Civic/Integra. The demand isn't as high. Mine did get stolen/towed right from my driveway a couple of years ago.
However, you do run the HIGH risk of having your top slashed to get access to your seats. They are highly sought after and can cost upwards of $5-6K to replace from Honda/insurance. Many older S2000s are actually totalled out because of seat theft. The OEM antenna also gets taken a lot. Mine got taken once already, and I remove it every time I park somewhere shady. My old S2000's antenna was taken about 4 times. Luckily it's only $15-22 at the dealer for a new one.
Alternatives are:
1. Seat locks (McGuard, Kodokan, etc)
2. Hardtop
3. Alarm, kill switches, and other deterrents.
4. Removing antenna when leaving the car parked.
5. Some owners actually leave the car unlocked so their tops don't get slashed. That's easily an over $1200 fix. We would rather someone open an unlocked car and grab stuff over slashing the top to get to it.
That's the info I have off the top of my head. Hope I helped. Make sure you have full coverage. It's a nice car, and somewhat expensive. If you can't afford full coverage, you can't afford the car in my opinion.

I parked down by canal street last night near little italy....granted it was the san gennaro's feast and there were cops all around...but my car was fine. I think that's the only time I will take it to the city, when it is in a highly visible, cop filled area. Other than that, my car stays at my house, or I'm in it.

Just to clarify - McGard Seat Locks and Kodokan Seat Locks are the same item.
Technically, there are no "McGard Seat Locks". McGard doesn't sell Seat Locks. McGard is the manufacturer of the Kodokan S2000 Seat Locks.

A hard top is a POOR choice for theft protection.
It's obvious to any one with eyes that there is no frame around the window on the S2K. It's also common knowledge that most all convertibles are easy to break into because of that. Unfortunately, slashing the top is easier than pulling on the window, so that happens the most.
A hard top cost thousands of dollars and takes about one minute to remove.
Need I say more?
