Default civic type-r vs. teg type-r cams

what is the difference between them? both intake and exhaust cams? Lift, duration?

looking to build up a gs-r motor, and trying to see which ones i would benefit more from if not aftermarket ones.

I believe the exh. cams are identical, and the only difference between the intakes, is 3 deg more duration on the CTR's. This is assuming youre talking about pre 00 ITR cams, in which case, if you arent, they are identical.

you believe right C.C.

as far as gains... 2-8hp peak. and a meatier curve. thats a guess if you drop them in all alone on a stock motor.

ipod like i said i did a search, but my question did not find answers i was searching for.

motor will not be stock. going to get the block built by laskey, decided on whether going with 11.5.1 comp or higher. also sending head to laskey for full build(port/polish with full supertech valvetrain).

Trying to make good power with this car, but still have it nice for the street us. considering going with aftermarket camshafts, but i thought i'd see what type of benefits i would see from oem.

spend the extra hundred or 2 and get s2s2. what you're trying to do is like staying with stock cams on a built motor.

I probably would end up with aftermarket cams, but at the same time do not want to mess with idle for street use.

if ur gonna build the bottom end then build the head. the cams is where ur gonna make ur power, the bottom end is just along for the ride. if u have a nice high comp ratio than i would choose my cams accordingly, if u dont ur not gonna make as much power. oem cams for this build in my opinion should be out of the question. i would look into either rocket motorsports cams or skunk2 pro series.

blox b aka skunk2 stg2 (not skunk pro series) aka jun3's have a nice stocklike idle actually.

if you want more midrange gains and some top end i recommend buddy club 3+'s..
if you want all the gains on the top end more suited to drag racing, go for the blox b's/skunk2 stg 2's.

Throwing out the idea of using stock cams all together.

This set up will not see any dragging. Will be used for a daily driving with plenty of autocross/track use on weekends. Reliability is the key here, but good usable power for track days is the goal also.

I think the suggestion to go with bd stg3's may be the best choice. Mid range power will help greatly on the street, and for the track(hopfully with decent gains up top. However I am considering going with an itb set up for the motor, and maybe the skunk2 stg2's are the better way to go. This way good top end gains are seen as well as midrange due to the nature of itb's.

There are plenty of good tuners here in socal, so i would have no problems getting the motor a good tune w/ itb's.

I'm also curious if I should stick with a new stock head gasket, or go with a mugen or other aftermarket brand.

mugen or spoon is basically the stock head gasket with the middle layer taken out.
it bumps up the compression about, what.. .2? and i know you're claying the motor, right?

are there alot of autocrossing/daily driven guys with ITB's?
i figure with all the debris and what not the longevity of the motor would be an issue with ITB's, since there is no air filter involved.

basic laskey motor build for the block includes:

Benson sleeved block
Benson balanced and micropolished crank
CP pistons and rings
Pauter rods
ACL bearings
OEM (TypeR) oil pump
Lower gasket set
Blueprint and assembly

I have seen some guys running itb's on there track cars, but it is rare to see often.
Debris would normally be an issue if you do not go with filters. TWM makes a induction box that goes over the itb's, or there are individual filters that go over them also.

Even so not much debris will be able to get to the location of the itb's in the engine bay.

ITB' usually aren't recommended for daily use. However I've known(coming from the s2k community) that many people have been running them for years with no problems.

If you're paying Mike to do it, just have him figure it out.

I would stick with OEM bearings instead of ACL.

I dont know about the oil pump, I have changed to Toda Ring when I rebuild mine.

lol well the build hasn't begun yet. It's easy to have someone else do it there way for me, but I'd prefer to have my parts chosen for me.

sinister, why stick with oem bearings over ACLs?
also not sure what you mean by todas ring...I know they make an oil pump gear, is this what you're refering to?
