I think I'm f'ed on my H2 engine selection
Ok I need a rule clarification/opinion because somehow I missed this.

"Rule Addendum
Effectively Immediately
H2
10.3 (a) The entire engine assembly, (cylinder head and block) MUST be constructed entirely of Honda/Acura OEM parts. Cylinder head and internal engine parts must be OEM parts for that particular engine code. Updating and backdating of parts for that engine code is permitted. No aftermarket parts are permitted in, the “bottom end,” of a Limited Prep Vehicle engine (except were specifically stated). Example(s): 1) A USDM D16A6 may not use pistons from a D16ZC engine and a head from a D16Y8."
I have D16A6, P29 (.030 over), D16Y8 head fully ported with cam yadda yadda
This was the exact engine I was building for this class in 08. I don't know how I missed this addendum. So the rules are telling me the engine I just built will not be allowed to run H2 and will get bumped to H1 correct?
If so I think I have a useless engine sitting here.

The fully ported head and cam (assuming aftermarket cam) would bump you into h1 alone. In fact I don't even think H1 allows fully ported head, just port matching to withing an inch in.
from what I read in the priginal rules D series could be fully ported. I don't know I might have missed that too. Guess that's what I get for not investing a shitload of money into the series. Shoulda just built an H4

F that!
If I had that kind of money I wouldn't have built a DI'd rock a K or better yet built an AI car.
Oh well HPDE and TT it is.

It isn't about investing a shitload of money into the series, at all in fact.
What it is about is understanding the classes and what they were created for, changes do occur however, it was never the intent of h2 to allow built motors of any kind. This is assuming that by cam you meant aftermarket.
Why couldn't you sell that motor and run something else? Surly you could get 800-1000 for that motor would would be enough to purchase a stock D series motor, or something else.
The Frankenstein nature of that motor was NEVER in the intentions of H2.

or like your said you could run in the HPDE series and be the HPDE CHAMPION, maybe you could be the NEMESIS
by the way are you gonna be running at ButtonWillow in Oct or Nov?

Yeah I'm over the initial shock and panic now.
I could sell off the engine and do something else. I had built the car to be H1 a while ago and decided it didn't fit into my budget. I would have to sell off more than the engine to go H4. I guess I could put the extra cash back into the suspension(or the driver
).
I realize LPV H2 rules were not intended for wild engines. But considering there is nowhere for the D to compete in anything other than a stock type class. To me that engine I have would be competitive against B18c5's but I can see where it would be a total bitch for NASA to enforce the engine package.
I may still build it and just be an HPDE ***** or I could stick I nice hairdryer on it and run TT. 350 hp with our G-stream aero stuff on a sub 2000 lb car. Scary fast beer can comin through! I think I'd **** myself lol
I have no desire to run H1 it's just too much money. For that kind of coin I'd rather run AI. To be quite honest I'm not a that level yet as a driver. H2 was going to be stretch already.
no worries I still have options.

Dave - Car is torn apart right now as I was planning on giving to Sam in a few months to put in a full cage. I will most likely be there to support the old man's AIX car.

If you don't even have a cage in the car, I wouldn't worry about your engine choice right at this moment. And unfortunately for you, the H2 LPV rules have always said the thing about matched heads and so forth. There was a lot of immediate discussion about GSR heads on ITR blocks, etc.

you could never fully port anything in H2-5.. you must've been reading the H1 Hybrid rules..
I still don't see why this is such a dealbreaker.. why not just build a different D motor?

Tempting Idea I haven't really looked into the B20 and to be honest I think I should really study the rules for LPV again before I start throwing money at the car.

Kind of a retarded comment but I get what your saying.
Cage is #99 on my list right now. It doesn't take much to weld in some bars. The engine on the other hand requires some planning and prep. As well as build time not to mention installing and tuning. Cage could go in the as late as a week before BW in Feb.
I do think I combined some of the pre rules discussion with the H1/H2 rules. Lesson learned. Kids, reading isn't enough....comprehension is required.

Ok off to read the rulebook AGAIN to weigh out the options. Anyone know when the 08 rules are coming out?

Cage is #99 on my list right now it doesn't take much to weld in some bars. The engine on the other hand requires some planning and prep. and build time not to mention intalling and tuning. cage could go in the as late as a week before BW in Feb. Make sure you read the CCR's and the HC rules regarding the cage. They are very specific about what is and is not allowed. I haven't built a cage for my car.. but I don't think it could be slapped together all that quick.
I would think there would be a bunch of planning involved. know that I don't want to have do the cage more than once.
Things I am thinking about:
1.) Do my front down bars go through the dash or infront
2.) will I have nascar bars that extend all the way to the door skin
3.) how will the rear down bars brace up the back end of the car
4.) How I will hook up the window nets
5.) How am I going to relocate the ECU to fit the cage
6.) will my nascar bars have an S in them or will I cut through the door pillar?
7.) How will I fab up my wink mirror to the cage
8.) How are the seat mounts going to work with the cage, are they going to interfere
I also think I would like to have a cage BEFORE I am doing any open-passing door-to-door stuff or racing school.
Kind of a retarded comment but I get what your saying.

I dunno, safety is the #1 thing I like to get out of the way. I can always drop in a B16 or whatever if my built motor isn't finished. Harder to finish a cage on a Friday night before an event.

Couldn't you sell the motor you built for about what it would cost to buy another? Maybe skip all the machine shop work until you get door 2 door for awhile and see how it goes. You'll learn not long after that there are LOTS of ways to spend money in racing and the engine, although important, is not necessarily #1 - especially in H2-5.
the cage is actually pretty complicated and takes a lot of time, planning, and money.. the rules on it are just as thorough as the engine prep rules.. I'd start thinking about this now, even if you're not planning to put it in for awhile..
the next set of rules are usually officially out in late winter, if there are that many revisions to make.. with the last minute updates before nationals, I'm not sure there are a ton of pending rule change requests (note, I am not on the board who makes those decisions, so I can't say any of this with certainty).. at the same time, the engine prep stuff for H2-5 hasn't changed all that much in the last two or three years, so I'd be expecting what's in there to basically stay that way..

I appriciate the safety comments but I already have the cage worked out. I know what I'm doing. this isn't my first race car build.
I'm just looking at engine options to save face from my screw up.
