Help with H22A NOS Build?
Hey guys, I'm finally the proud owner of an H22A through one hell of a deal from my friend today. The block was flooded out during Katrina, so a full rebuild is necessary and I'm jumping all over it
I got a 93 Prelude with the H22A1 but it's starting to smoke, so I'd like to get the JDM motor coming together. I've been in the tuning scene for a few years now, but this will be my first full motor build.
I've got a few grand to dump into the motor, but would like to keep it around 2-3k invested. Goals are 250-300 to the wheels with maybe a 100 shot off a wet system.
Problem is with my inexperience with motor builds, I need some help!
In my research I've learned all about the problems with the FRM sleeves and if I get aftermarket pistons then I'm going to need to resleeve the block, unless I go with the Mahle pistons (which are designed for use w/o resleeving).
I've read about the type S pistons, which seems like that would be my best bet considering I'll knock about $1k off the build since I won't have to resleeve, but would the Type S pistons be suitable for a NOS setup?
Also, the NOS would only be used for track visits (which would be rare) and moreso there just for extra needed boost when I feel like it. Also, please keep in mind this is my daily driven baby.
With all of that in mind, would it be better just to snag the type S pistons and just rebuild the rest of the bottom end with OEM parts, and then focus on head work and bolt ons? The main reason I wanted to go into the whole rebuild is since I have to rebuild this motor anyways, I figure why not do it all the way? But considering it's my daily driver and I"d like to get off with this as cheap as possible, I'm thinking otherwise?
Input/opinions greatly appreciated, thanks guys. I'm picking up the motor today! :D
