Default new (to me) bike. sat for a while

as it says, i just baught a bike, 85 suzuki gs550 e from this guy. the bike sat for a while and i just wanna know what to do to make sure it wont have any problems. the guy said it sat for a year. i replaced the battery, im planning an oil change, but is there anything else i should do to make sure itll be safe and reliable? should i siphon out the bad gas or put fuel stabilizer in the tank?

Definitely get rid of the bad gas. If it sat for so long with any fuel stabilizer in it, there's most likely rust in the gas tank. You'll want to clean that out (I forget the name of the product...Klear or something).

You'll probably also want to flush/replace the coolant, brake lines, and suspension fluids. Replacing the brake pads and tires is also a good idea. And you may want to put on new sprockets and a new chain.

I hope you didn't pay much for this bike.

MSF Gear Insurance.

The thing that usually keeps me away from bikes that have sat for awhile, is that they their tags tend to be expired by "awhile" as well. DMV back-penalties can sometimes cost more than the bike did to purchase.
