Default 1989 Honda Civic Dx

I'm looking to get into another Honda , I wanted your guy's opinion about a car for sale , that I came across on the internet.

" The car : 1989 Honda Civic 2 Door Dx Hatchback

Specs :

Color – Gold

5 Speed Manual, factory manual steering, roll up windows, manual locks

132000 miles Mileage – city 31 mpg ; highway 41 mpg

This car has NEVER been in any accidents and I have a carfax report
Everything in this car works, period.

Tires changed at 107K 3/2002 and have lots of treadwear left
Cold A/C (compressor replaced 10/02 )
Radiator changed 10/02 – 110K miles

Distributor Base Assembly changed 2/2003 – 111K miles
Timing belt/ water pump / fan belts changed 1/2004 – 116k miles
Excellent Brakes (All hoses / rotors / shoes and Master Brake Cylinder replaced 3/2005 - 122k miles)

Front Axle changed (3/2005 - 122k miles)
Battery replaced 4/2005 – 122K miles
Alternator replaced 11/2005 – 126K miles
Muffler / Resonator / Tailpipe with chrome tip 4/2007 NEW!
Air Filter changed 5/2007

Paint job still looks good and no cosmetic flaws/rust other than a tiny ding in the back. Driver and passenger seats have nice carseat covers.

I am the second owner of the car and bought it 3.5 years ago from a friend (I had to really persuade him to sell it as he kept it in excellent condition for 15 years). I have all maintenance records dating from date of purchase in 1989 and title in hand. "

And here are a few pictures that he included :

The price he is looking for , would be $1,600.00 , I personally think it is a fair price given current status of the car , inside and out.

Miles are somewhat high , but down the road I will think about a swap , but for now , I need the car as a daily driver to and from work , which is about an 1 hour and 15 minute commute for me, to and from work 6 days a week.

I am due to go and look at the actual car some time next weekend , but just looking for your guy's advice , and thoughts.

Thanks , Ari

With it's history and your area, it's not a bad price at all.

I see no reason not to grab it.

Those motors are tanks, I wouldn't sweat the milage too much, and D series stuff is cheap as sin worse to worse. Heck I gave a D series away before.

Best of luck, and use the faqs on the mpfi swap you'll want that mod asap, even if you arn't going to do much with it.

Thanks , I'm currently about 7 or 8 pages deep into the provided F.A.Q. on the front page.

Edit : maybe I should have made this a poll.

My vote is go for it, looks like it's in really good condition. And if the motor goes, oh-well. D's are cccchhhheeeeaaaapppp. on the hatch, super clean.

Yeah, jump on that one. Here in Orlando something in that good of condition would go for around $2,000. Hatches are in high demand around here. Ones sold for $1800 and less around here are almost always kinda messed up...Bad paint, missing interior, smoking, broke motor, etc.

132000 miles on an '89 is LOW. I have 237000 on my all original '91 DX and it runs and looks terrific, and still gets over 40 MPG.

Make buying that car your first priority, or you'll regret it.

From what you have described, that is a barely broken in car. It sounds to me like all of the major high spots have been addressed and it sounds to me like your looking at a great, cost effective value.

I'd jump on it.. I picked up a 91 hatch with 250K miles on it, i'm the second owner.. I didn't hesitate buying it because always wanted one and it was it great condition. Had to change a fuel pump and relay, but other than that runs great..purchased it to commute to work and back, about 80 miles each day .. I save the miles on my GS400..

If this car your looking is well taken care of, you wont be disappointed..

I'd buy it up, That color gold was the color of my first hatch (88 at that) and still my favorite color ef. It doesn't show dirt and keeps people from taking to much notice to it.
