Default HELP - inside "brake lines??" MELTING plastic clips

FIRST TIME POSTING - HELP

I have a 1991 CRX si, disk rotors all around. I had an issue today, I notice my brake pedal DROPPED to the floor for no reason, platic clips MELTING.

(normal driving)
(interior is completely stripped -easy access)

I was driving home (6 blocks from home) and i noticed a "smell" coming from my car...when i got home, the WHOLE interior was FULL of smoke (burnt plastic). I notice the interior (brake??) lines, running from under my dash all the way behind passenger seat, (bends right at the passenger wheel well and it moves across to the driver side wheel well - stops there), was hot enough to MELT all plastic clips that were holding it in place.

--((The line runs under the passenger door, runs all the way back to the passenger wheel well, travels under a METAL plate, to the driver side wheel well.))
--((the plate is located right behind the little flip up storage compartment - right at the seem of the back hatch cover))

-- I am guessing this would be a Brake line, but i have NO idea.

The plate that cover that line was hot enough to burn the **** out of my hand, and melt every platic clip that held it in place. This happened RIGHT when my brakes (brake pedal hit the floor) went out.

What caused this problem? and how do i fix it?

This car is my daily driver and i need to get this fixed ASAP.

I took 3 pics, after looking a bit more in detail, i notice there are actually 2 lines, seems like 1 line is for the passenger rear wheel well (thats where it stops) and the other (the problem one, looks actually burnt compared to the other one) continues to the driver side rear wheel well.

i could not figure out to link the images directly, put i posted them on a website, so they can be accessed through that addie (http://www.angelfire.com/d20/extra/D...blem-Pics.html)...if you have any problems with the links, let me know, Thanks!

I dont think its fluid, perhaps a wire for a amp or other source is shorting out on this brake line or near it, this would cause this sort of thing in a heart beat.

After thinking about this, nonstop for 8 hours, i do believe you are correct on the amp wire shorting out on this brake line. There was a "battery" wire, (battery relocated to the rear of the hatch) that ran right down that section.

Ok, next question: Was anything harmed, and/or do i need to replace anything?

By the way, you guys are BADASS! Thank you so much for you help, VERY speedy also, I am impressed.

Next question: I am going to (regardless if i need to) replace the brake fluid, whats the fastest, most efficient way of changing out brake fluid?

Thanks again!
