1994 Honda Accord Dx exhaust system
Hey,
I bought my 1994 Honda Accord Dx in May and have recently repaired most of the defects, (scratches, dings, dents, etc..) but now my exhaust seems to be going but i figured, why not kill two birds with one stone and upgrade instead of replacing it... I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations as to what exhaust system might best fit my accord and sound the best. It has the 2.2L V4 and cant find the inlet diameter (if anyone can help with that) Thanks!!

Yeah, V4's do in fact exist there cupcake, however in the Honda cars they're I4's (in-line 4)
As to the exhaust, you probably don't want to drop major coin on like a Apexi WS2. Your best bet, get a decent muffler (check accord faq for the exhuast thread) and just have a shop do custom piping (like 2.5")

I have the same engine-F22B2, in my 1994. First, stay away form doing much with the exhaust UNLESS you have the 5MT. Dropping much back-pressure off the system really screws up shifting patterns of the auto-tranney models, thay can't shift fast enough to accomodate the fast drop in backpressure. You CAN shift faster to beat the "drop" in pressure with a MT.
If you do have the 5MT, then don't dump too much into the system unless you plan to UPGRADE the cam/engine etc. I might suggest you 1) have it racked to see what condition the PIPES are in (Honda OEM pipes are pretty good) 2) Buy a high-flow muffler and MAYBE a high-flow cat if yours is getting shot 3) Have a GOOD muffler shop cut/weld the muffler in, a good cat will be bolt-up.
Some may scream here- "not enough $$$ spent", "not enough rice". I had a Magnaflow welded in with the stock engine/pipes, and the combo worked very, very well (the piping was in excellent shape, so was the cat).
You ARE NOT going to get any HP from this engine anyway if it's stock, or any stock 4-banger. The car will run better at high PRM's, some better high end torque, that's about all you are going to get from a stock engine. And I have seen folks have many problems with auto-tranneys form dropping off much back-pressure.
If you plan to BUILD the engine with forged pistons, a high-rise cam, a header, etc. you CAN justify building up the exhaust system, you will need to move much more air faster. But then you're looking at about $3000 to build the engine RIGHT, so the money for the exhaust won't be so "lonely". Wrenchy

In my Jeep (4.0 six shooter) I run 2.5" pipes, which is good even for stroked rebuilds with a stockish cam. Then again, a Jeep engine has a totally different mission than a small displacement, four cylinder screamer. So... when I had my Saturn (1993 coupe, DOHC) I was told 2.25" is ideal for most applications- daily or summer driver, mostly bolt on upgrades, stock internals.
Since Honda's four cylinders are similar in displacement, I'd recommend the same to maintain some backpressure- too little backpressure and you lose the scavenging effect, too much and of course it's a restriction. If you want to research and get all into it, run an online search, and I'm sure some of the guys who've ported their own heads here and stuff can further contribute to this. With a turbo- minimal backpressure AFTER the turbo is needed for maximum power.

Try your local Craigslist. You might come up on a good deal on a full catback exhaust system.
Most exhaust systems are quiet if your shifting normally, but if you're a maniac at the wheel then...good luck w the local fuzz

2.5" exhaust is quite massive for a 4 cylinder engine....lots of backpressure loss. i would suggest going no bigger than 2.25" actually, 2.25" would be quite adequate.
