Nasa HPDE, roll bars, seats, harnesses... need some clarification
I read the CCR, maybe I missed what I needed to find, but hopefully someone can help me out.
The car is for HPDE use, I'm not going to actually go racing with it.
Looking to put in an autopower roll bar, some seats and 5 point harnesses.
Autopower sells the diagonal brace and the harness bar as bolt-in options. Is it permissible to have either of these as bolt in members? or must one or both be welded into the roll hoop? I dont need the space for back seat people, I more or less need access back there because the back seat doubles as the only place in the car to put my track rims.
The HPDE part of the CCR refers to roll bars seemingly with respect to convertibles, and refers you to the competition rules on cages. Since I'm not going to fully cage the car, I'm just not sure what I must do or cannot do. I know the autopower stuff is set up to conform to SCCA rules, but the tubing they use seems to comply with NASA requirments as well.
My other question regards the phrase in there about the passenger seats meeting the minimum requirement but dont need to be the same as the driver. I'm aware of the unwritten version to have the same on both as a courtesy to instructors, and I have absolutely no problem complying with the unwritten version. It makes pretty good sense. For me... I need the american fat butt seat. My question is, for a passenger/instructor seat, would I be better off with another big one, or an intermediate sized seat?

I'll let other HPDE guys chime in, but I think the autopower rollbar with detachable harness bar and diagonal is fine. The main requirement that the rules appear to say is that the bars must have proper bar padding.
The main reason I chimed in is that I would suggest you get another big size seat. You never know how big your instructor will be. If I'm instructing, I'd rather be in a loose seat than a seat way to tight to fit in.

I ran a Autopower bolt in cage for about 5 years.
NASA and other HPDE groups do not seem to be concerned with bar sizing for HPDE's.
In HPDE your fine as long as, like Drew said, there is proper padding.
Some groups will not allow someone to use a 5-point harness without a roll bar.

Your questions have already been answered about the rollbar, you're fine with having a bolt-in harness bar and diagonal. Do know that although Autopower claims they're for convenience, it is a major pain in the *** to put them in and out of the car.
As for seats, I'll echo Andrew's thoughts: bigger is better. I have a narrow ***, but I've had to really cram bigger people into my Pro2000s and it's extremely uncomfortable for them, and not all instructors share my svelte figure

Well I run mine in HPDE and I'll will put in the disclaimer that it depends on the region and who is teching the car.
I have an autopower with welded cross bar and harness bar. The bolt in version of those bars are allowed.
That being said I was required to install the race seat with 5 points and a seat back brace. Now I have a kirkey seat so that may have been the requirement for the seat brace. I'm not sure. I also had to add padding where ever it was possible for the helemt to come into contact with the bars.
Also if you have a roll bar and will have passengers/instructors you are supposed to provide the level of protection for them as well. I interpet that as also a race seat with 5 points and brace.
Just what I've experianced.
