Default Choosing the right Honda bearings

How do you normally go about doing this? I can't imagine the marks on the crank and block being too useful after many many thousand miles. Both the journals and bearings would have worn some right? So I don't know what the original clearance in the motor was, and checking them now won't accomplish anything either.

So how do I get the right ones before checking the clearance? Buy one of each color and find the right combination for each journal until the spec is right? Then reorder the right quantity of the bearings I need? Is there a more efficient way to get the right clearances? This is for an H22, so I'll most likely have to mix colors per the helms chart.

Thanks.

Yes, you can read the codes on the crank and block after many many thousands of miles.

Or you can buy a inside/outside mic that will read ten thousands.

Or you could take it to a machine shop.

I meant that knowing what bearing colors were originally used won't be of much help because the journals must have worn some. So I'll most likely need different color bearings than were used from the factory. Am I wrong?

Pretty much. The original size bearings should work perfectly. Crank journals don't wear much. They are much harder than bearing material.

Very much so. Journals should have almost no wear.
