Default Installing a Mugen oil pan- where to liquid gasket?

I've just gotten my Mugen oil pan, but alas my factory manual hasn't yet gotten here. Can anyone shed some light on where the liquid gasket should be applied? I'm assuming it's in specific locations.

Form a perimeter around the edge, and make sure you use carb spray or acetone or any other strong solvent to clean the surface first. Loctite Anaerobic sealer is the best stuff money buys, that's what we use assembling our BMW race motors.. it's rather pricey, but worth it.

If you have a new Honda gasket.. you should not need any liquid gasket.
Did you have any leaks before?

Actually, the Helms manual only calls for Hondabond to be put on the four 'corners' where the oil pump/rear cover and the block meet up.

When you get under there (and oil keeps dripping for days on end) you will see these four 'corners' that I am talking about.

You don't need to put much on there. The key to preventing leaks is following the tightening procedure outlined in the Helms manual. Go around and tighten each nut/bolt a little at a time. Be sure not to deform the gasket too much.

Good luck.

I just put a Mugen oil pan on my ITR and I was really suprised that it came with gasket. Gotta hand it to Mugen/King Motorsports.

Thanks everyone. It was VERY hard to tell but looking close I found a small dab of the old liquid gasket at just about every corner. ...That's where I suspected it should go, after reading through your posts I now know for sure. My pan came with a new gasket but I'm going to used the liquid one too, just to be sure Paul.

on kinda the same note, i've heard that either the Mugen or the Spoon pan has better baffling. Is it the Mugen that is supossed to control oil a little better? The Moroso holds a little more oil than I want on two spirited daily drivers...

The Mugen pan baffle covers more area. Which in my opinion, causes your oil to move around less... keeping it where you'd like it. Both are good pans. Paul

The moroso pan is for drag racing in that the baffles keep oil from sloshing back on starts. It'll work for circuit applications b/c more oil also adds as a cooling effect. An extra quart isn't too bad of a compromise and I know the moroso pan is cheaper than the mugen or spoon.

Nope, the Mugen pan is cheaper than the Moroso. Oh, and you have to buy a new oil strainer when you get the Moroso oilpan.
