Any CA legal cat-back?
My hatch is in desperate need of a new cat-back system. It had a custom set-up before, but then the last owner got a ticket for it and had to weld up a new stock muffler. However, the previous owner was such a dumbsh*t, that the weld job is crap and the muffler is shot so it now just makes that damn annoying noise. I would just go get a good aftermarket cat-back, but I live in California (Car Lover's Hell) and don't want to have to pay the damn enormous fines for having an efficient system. Anyone have any suggestions?
ok... here's the deal with evil Cali smog and decibel crap... Greddy and Trust are good...as long as the exhaust comes with a certificate of legality of all 50 states, it's good. I used to have a Tanabe catback on my Civic, got a ticket for it, and got it thrown out of court. It's easy to fight these tickets, it's just a pain in the butt. Just make sure that whatever you get, that it comes with a cert. because it makes it really easy to fight in court. Custom setups are cool too, but it's much harder to prove that they are legal, and then you really have to prove that they are. I'd check out Greddy, Trust, DC.. I know those ones for sure are a-ok legal in Cali.
I got a ticket in march for a "modified" exhaust. I asked around and I was told by everyone that "modifying" your exhaust is illegal, Period. The cop told me that anything louder than stock is illegal. I'd just get one anyway if I were you, just think about the tip and be sure to install the resonator if one isn't put in there already. It's gonna be a fight if you get a ticket though. I'm still working on my arguement for court. Basicly I'll tell 'em that my exhaust was replaced not modified. hope this helps.
