H22 Type S motor
Okay, I really hate to junk up the fourm with my questions, but I have a few more that Id like to clear up, so I hope that someone will be able to assist me.
I've been reading up diffrent type of motors to drop into my 4th gen at the end of October. The one that Ive had my eye on is the JDM h22 type s. Its the one with the 220hp. Will I be able to drop that striaght into my fourth gen with just the long block, or am I going to need the hydrolic transmission I keep reading about.
Also Ive been hitting up some other fourms and reading up on this particualr motor.
"The Type-S is just a Type-SH H22 block and head with a better intake tract, TB, IM, more agressive cams, upgraded valvetrain, higher compression pistons, and a better header/exhaust system."
Quoted from another web page.
For instance if one were to take the stock H22 block (190hp) and upgrade the cams, valvetrain, pistons. I dont know what TB and IM stands for. Would doing that build the motor up to the type s motor? Would it be cheaper, or more exspensive?
You see I dont know what I really want for my car. I know that I want it to go faster and have a lot more pick-up.
Ive pretty much swayed to the Nitrous set up, but before I do that I wanted another motor, because if I blow the one motor I dont want to be assed out. So I've had my eye on this type S motor and I hope that you guys can assist me in the awnsers to my questions, and I aploigize if I have asked some of the other questions before.

i have a 96 h22a siR engine in my 95 special edition prelude. it would be a better idea to get the type s just beause its the best prelude engine ever and would definitely more impressive, but im very satisfied with my siR. i have a phearable chipped p06 race ecu tuned by a local shop using a apexi neo vafc. i would highly suggest this set up for sure. check with your local performance shop to get your car on the dyno to straighten out your powerband and to adj your timing. i had my car tuned so i can take it to 8500 rpms
which looks sick on the h23 gauges that redline at 6500- so im in love bringing it all they way into redline + going into the blank spot. go with a good ecu with a deleted rev limiter and removed speed govenor (because a jdm ecu stops at 120mph)

Pah, wow, most of that way over my head. I speak good noob thought. ha.
I think Im gonna go with something very novice set up.
H22a 200hp (just long block)
Greddy SPS exahust with highflow cat
Headers (megan racing)
New motor mounts(undecided if OEM, or the ones on password JDM)
Short Ram air
Hondata s200
Then after all that is accomplished, take it, get it tuned, do some dyno runs.
Then find a Nitrous Kit.
Then after that Ill have a whole motor lying around that I can take apart and rebuild, probally spending countless nights resarching what I want to get done to it.
Oh and by the way. I spent about 2 hours last night looking around for the BB6 block. I found it on a couple sites, but they had it listed for like 4 grand, and it included everything from axels to hydrolic trans. I dont want all that. Im more intrested just in the long block itself. I also read how rare that set up is too. It may be a little more than I am willing to spend right now.
Im think I can get all the listed parts above for right around 2500. Which is about as much Im going to allot myself for my automotive hobbie over the fall and spring.

h22 type-s has atts and only came in type-s preludes
h22 Sir S-Spec has an lsd and came in SiR S-Spec Preludes
h22 euro-r came only in Japanese/Asian Accord Euro-r's, it also has an lsd
h22 type-r came in european accords, not a clue about LSD.
FROM Engine Importers:
type-s means it has a red valve cover, and has anywhere from 200-300 hp depending on what they think that day.
From me:
id just get the base engine, unless you can get a great deal on a Euro-R.

1. Comes with high compression rate.
2. Aggressive cams.
3. One of the best n/a intake manifold.
4. THE best h-series transmission with LSD.
With a good header, more aggressive cames, and a good tune, you can make great power with this setup without too much of a hassle.
By the way, this is the same exact engine as the type-s accept the different intake manifold, better gearing, and LSD instead of atts.

100% Agree, not to mention the best gearing for a n/a setup, and *the* best manifold. (Even better than aftermarket offerings some say)

From what they think that day. So I guess they run around making these numbers up.
Im most likely gonna do the H22a Motor. The type S and Euro R motors are rare and a little two expensive for right now. I think the h22a will keep me happy for now. Although the set ups on type S, SiR, and euro R are pretty impressive. I dont think It will be worth all the trouble of serching for one, geting it, installing it; then hooking Nitrous to it, with a big risk of blowng that motor to bits.
